Sundown Audio NS-1 drop-in test on 12v

Recommended Posts

Ok, so as some of you may know, me and the guys at D Style Audio are about midway through finishishing my blowthrough build with 4 z18v3's in my Dodge Ram ...a very thorough build log with lots of pics may be found on the Russian version of cardomain in my sig (you may need to use google-translate to navigate there as it is in Russian)

for those that want Cliff-notes:

vid just before the build

here's the truck after a new paintjob

Current electrical consists of a Mechman 320A alt, XS Power D6500 under the hood, two D2700's in the bed - two runs of positive and negative - Shok Industries 0awg .... we will add more bats in February when the next shipment of bats comes in

This is the amp we're using for this build

88ce6ac717b26e82-main.jpg - it is a prototype we are testing for Russ at Shok industries..it's a beast of an amp..I'm sure those that are familiar with guts of high power Korean amps will have no problems identifying what it resembles and and what power is to be expected... we have so far clamped it at 7200watts with a drop to 11v.. score was 154.5 @36hz

here's the vid of that

we have since done a best of 154.7 @35hz with that amp.... my current range from 30 to 38hz is pretty flat - within tenths of a db

so, right after we metered the 154.7 (this was after a fresh charge on the bats with the awesome XS Power HF1215 intellicharger) we shot some vids for fun

and then we had some business to take care of - test some NS-1s that just came in before shipping them out to teammates outside of Moscow

and we knew NS-1s are some strong ass amps from a previous testing and competitions with the prototypes, but the results of this drop-in test were a surprise to us...pretty much right out of the box we gained 0.2 dbs over the best score of the other amp :runaround:

and the best part?

96264184.jpg

less voltage drop

Me being happy :D

WOW nice! less voltage drop and more db's! now that is a hell of a combo!

and nice job on the video's! that camera you used is crazy! I noticed in one of the youtube video's you said it was a cannon d7!

Any idea when it will be available for sale to the public.

I believe Jake is taking pre-orders on the second production run - first one is completely sold out since like back in october iirc ...I'd get in-touch with your local Sundown dealer

It sure is, we were all very suprised with the gain and even more so when we saw the voltage.... we were basically metering just for fun, hence no video camera running, but when we saw the number on the meter we were like "Holy shit we need to take pics of this!!"

Yeah, the first video is way nice, that's a fellow Team Sundow Russia teammate shooting and editing - here's the guy's youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/kostsov - he does awesome work

just for laughs I took this vid a few days ago when driving with the amps from customs to the shop

rumors that this amp works up to 8.5 v

is it really true?

Works up to? I hope it doesn't work under 8.5v, lol..

I mean, above the 8.5 V

sorry for my english

however, say they work well, from 8.5v to rise

possible?

many amps are RATED to handle voltage as low as 8.5-9.5v but rarely will it ever hold up if it requires a lot of current to back it up that isn't there..

you mean will it work with a drop to 8.5v? i don't know really, you'd have to ask Jake. I know I won't be testing it for low voltage protection and I do know that it will work with a system that is charging above 19v.

from the testing above I can conclude that the NS-1 seems to have much better efficiency than the other amp...

I wouldn't really suggest running them down so low continuously and I'm not sure about that rumors origin ? We did make them to run UP TO 19v (as much as 19.5v depending on the circuit tolerance) rather than the more standard 17.9v

The protection is ~8.5v but I'm not going to recommend it that low for very much play time :)

Do the stock Z.v3's come with the high rolled surround?

Thanks Jacob.

I may have to change my mind about subs now. That thing is sexy.

of course, but it's good to know that at 8.5 V does not detach

very good!!!!
