  1. 1. Which HU should I choose

    • Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD
    • Pioneer DEH-P960MP
    • Other (Recommend)

Hey guys, I have narrowed it down to two choices. I was originally going to just buy any random HU until next spring when I start my serious build. But with news of x3 for holiday pay which is the entire last week of December working 12 hour shifts, that build may begin sooner. So this HU will be the HU in my vehicle for the next 5 years or so, I'm planning long term here. So the two choices are:

A) Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD

B) Pioneer deh p960mp

I have been looking in this segment for quite some time, not too too in depth, but just looking around. I can get the DEH for 200, or I can get the AVH for about 320. Here are some key features that both offer that is really attractive to me.

Pioneer AVH-P4300DVD:

  • 7" Full color WQVGA (480x240) display with anti-glare coated LCD screen
  • EEQ (Easy EQ) 8-band graphic equalizer with 7 selectable tone curves (5 Preset, 2 User)
  • 3 Sets of 4V preamp outputs (front and rear/subwoofer switchable)
  • Navigation ready
  • Rear video output: 1 set of rear video output
  • Rear audio output: 3.5mm mini-jack output
  • Rear video input: Rear video input for rear view cameras with a RCA composite input,
  • SD & SDHC Memory car slots behind the flip-down front panel
  • 8 - band EQ

Pioneer deh p960mp:
  • 24-bit Burr-Brown D/A converter for incredibly rich sound
  • Supertuner IIID
  • 6.5-volt front, rear, and subwoofer preamp outputs
  • Easy EQ, BBE, 13-Band Graphic EQ + 5 Presets

I will say this, I am leaning more toward the AVH because of the screen mostly, being GPS ready, watching DVDs and which would leave growth to but screens in my headrests, the ease of putting music, vids and pics on SD card. But the reason I'm asking for suggestion is because I believe I would be getting the DEH at a steel. Plus, 6.5v output would give me lots of headroom when setting the gain to my amps. But I really have no experience with either which is another reason I'm asking. Also, my goals are not too extreme. With the DEH offering an 13 bang EQ, that may become overwhelming to me as I won't know how to setup everything properly as I'm no super tuner.

So I'm just looking for some general input to help me decide and any comments would be greatly appreciated. Or, if you have another suggestion, please by all mean, budget would be right around the 330 mark, unless I find it worthy to cost more.

Don't worry about the preout voltage. If you aren't too sure about even the EQ on the premier, don't even bother with it. You sound like you have already made up your mind and are pretty set on the DVD receiver.

I have had hands on experience with the AVH. I had one for about 3 months until I broke the screen. I love the sleek look of it and the vivid colors. Great for watching videos or movies between classes and was great for running my 10 inch flip down. I don't know what the difference will be between the 4v per-outs vs the 6.5, but I know my Avh was very loud and clear.

On a side note where did you find the Avh for 320?

Yes your right, I was already set on the DVD receiver, and the premier was brought to my attention last night. I quickly looked it and saw one going for 500 on ebay, so that raised an attention right away. Thanks for the input though, I appreciate it.

Hey man thanks very much for your input. That makes me feel very good now. Yeah the volts out had me thinking as well. I heard once on here before its relevancy on audible, and the conclusion I got from it was that you can set your gain lower with an higher volt ouput. Not too sure though. And phuck, it was selling for 319 at This place just yesterday, but is now back up to 378. It was some dealer on Ebay though I do remember that, I'm going to hunt it back down though because I really want it now lol. But the premier just had a lot of options or capabilities listed, most of I wouldn't even know how to utilize though.

What do you guys think about this?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AVH-P4300DVD-7-TOUCH-SCREEN-DVD-USB-Car-Player-radio-Free-Rear-Camera-/330649953109?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5046456238094085833

I've sent a few emails between the seller and I, and he claims they are built in the same build house kind of thing, but cannot sport the pioneer badge simply because the low price, but claims ALL internals are identical. Have you guys ever gave something like this a try, and if so, how did it turn out? I mean, I'm some what aware of companies that have exact same internals, but with a different face. I've seen this a lot in car audio, but how about head units? I'm just a tad bit weary at this point, because it will be chance. I mean it comes with everything I need, at such a crazy price, I guess thats why I'm afraid to pull the trigger but any input would definitely be greatly appreciated for sure!.

Comparing this to the DVD I mentioned in this thread.

I looked at the specs and it gives no reference to the pre-out voltage, I purchased a budget HU for my son's Eclipse and after a few months it started acting all jacked up(sometimes it worked and sometimes it did not, mostly with he usb input). Ending up purchasing a AVH-P3200BT and it has been great. The overall sound of the system is much better as well.

Just wanted to share my experience with the budget direction, which actually didn't help the budget!

You get what you pay for ... I would stay away from the Crown DVD and go with the Pioneer!

I love Alpine decks actually. But the only problem for me buying OS is that I'm kinda techy, and when you buy OS, sometimes well, their just not up to date enough for me unfortuantely as far as capabilities go for.
