Help me spend my money

Recommended Posts

..and no I'm not giving it to you.

I'm piecing my system together bit by bit. bills take priority but what little left I have goes towards the system which is why its taking a bit to finish (sorry Robin!) and my next purchase is either going to be:

option 1) 1 of 2 sundown Z v.3 18's

OR

option 2) my last XS power D6500 to complete my electrical and getting my Three.2 fiberglassed into my dash (courtesy of Monster Sound In Winter Haven, FL).

what say you all? eventually I need both options but for right now I cant decide what I want to purchase first.

In total I need still:

(2) Sundown Z v.3 18's

(1) XS Power D6500

(1) Crescendo BC5500

and a bad *** box (which is already designed by BHE)

completed and installed so far:

(2)Sundown NeoPro 10's in fiberglassed door panels

(2)Soundstream SST-05 tweeters

(2)Image dynamics CD1 Pro compression horn

(1)Audio Control Three.2

(1)Sundown 100.4

(1)Sundown 125.2

(1)XS power D6500

(1)XS Power D3400

(1)Mechman 270 amp alt.

The Big 3

Since you don't have a sub amp or an enclosure I agree with bassahaulic.

Thats what I was thinking in my head, I guess I just needed some eyes with an outside point of view to validate it. Hopefully Jacob doesn't sell out of this run on Z v.3's by the time I get to it! lol

I wouldn't mind seeing some SSA woofers in there to be honest man. I think they would go well with the rest of your stuff. They sound amazing.

yea Zcons would fit the bill well, I've just never ran their stuff. I've ran the Z v.2's and loved them. I guess I'm scared of change lol.

I've run a z v.1 and v.2.....Love my ZCON

damn you for making me have to rethink. I mean they were on my list of possible subs. I just settled on the Z v.3 because of the price and I like the larger 9.25" spider and tall surround. :glare:

Don't get me wrong you can't go wrong either way, and the new Z looks amazing but I seriously love my zcon. I'm only running 1500 at the moment and it is awesome.

OK well I know there is more to the whole story here but just a quick look at the specs and the BL and xmax is higher in the Z v.3 and its cheaper. SO why would I pay more for a Zcon? I want someone to convince me here, I'm not saying the Zcon is a bad woofer, Im just curious..plus being an SSA forum I know the views are going to be a bit skewed.

but if someone can come in here and give me some cold hard facts, I can do change ;)

This is the sundown forums too ;)

Heard some sundown people almost changed teams just because of the woofers.

The z might get louder but i suspect the ssa woofer will be more a case of the best of both worlds, but sounding good while doing so...if that makes sense.

I don't "Nuthug" anyone. I've run Sundown and probably will again. Like I said neither driver would be a bad choice.

ive ran tons of sundown and i still install alot of their gear for my buddies. (installing 2 sa-8s and a sae1200 tomorrow) but in my own ride i have zcons and ill never change back. MADE IN USA should be a selling point.

mine did a 151.8 on just 1200w sundown amp and 156.8 on 10k. pretty versital sub for any power range.

hmm, all valid points. is there a thread that has the features of the sub on here? like 9.25 inch 4 layer spider, 3" 8 layer coil..all those kinds of specs. not TS.

So this is not what you were looking for?

A true heavy weight by all accounts, the new SSA Zcon is absolutely a beast. After 3 years of development, to answer the demand from the mega power fanatics and high output crowd, the massive SSA Zcon is finally here. Incorporating an FEA optimized motor with a spiral CNC-machined solid pole piece, the Zcon has the technology and cooling to take some serious abuse with the ability to step up the cabin pressure to brutal levels.

Bringing to market our biggest motor ever, the Zcon has the motor strength for accurate cone control showing that this is not a one note wonder. The Zcon is at home in a moderate daily driver system as it is in a mega power competition system. Five sandwiched spiders and a large 3" - 8 layer aluminum coil, means the Zcon can handle the heaviest of hands on the volume knob for years to come. Right from the start, the Zcon is already in the top offerings on the market for the high end, big output daily driver sub woofers. You can be proud to own a SSA Zcon, as with the entire SSA speaker line up, it is designed, engineered, machined and built here in the USA.

OK. let me as a more specific question. What diameter are the spiders and each magnet slug? what gauge wire do the push terminals on the subwoofer accept? that's what I'm looking for. I did not know if it was published anywhere or if there was thread on here where this was answered. I searched and did not see one.

12 gauge is all that's needed, what does magnet slug diameter have anything to do with anything?

I think it's like the buying a system because it was loud on youtube craze. The bigger slug will clearly be louder. :peepwall:
