the Big three

Recommended Posts

Was thinking of wiring up the big 3 in my 04 grand prix. Don't have a high output alt, should the hookup only be done if the alt is aftermarket quality? What other determinations should sway me to do or not do this wiring?

It never hurts, any upgrade to your charging system is a good thing.

Do it, even with the stock alternator.

Duran beat me to it.

Thanks, so proceed with some monster kable 0 G? What are those female connectors that you can put a male connector on the cable and connedt them without using the actual wire into a female connect? Sorry don't really know how to explain it, but where could I get some of thosee what is a good site to buy 0 G off of as well as parts/ terminals, fuses?

They are out of 1/0 and 2/0. I would need something to hold 200A+, right

Honestly for as short of run as you need, you could get away with 4ga on 200amp or less. If your not that worried about beauty then you also could just buy cables at your local auto store or wal-wart, that already have ends on them.

Really don't feel like paying 20 bucks for a foot at local audio store and not really into buying scosche wire, that industrial stuff is good, I already have a 3 ft strand I probably will use as ground, just need some 10 ft strand probably to split up to go to the alt exc. Also need some connectors, I might think about getting that 2 gauge off that site, thanks man.

No Problem. I know sometimes I am picky and sometimes not. Just depends on the build theme.

And definetly support the SSA store whenever possible.

Good luck with the build.

They are not out of the standard 1/0 and 2/0 wiring, they are out of the 1/0 and 2/0 ultra-flex welding cable.

Just don't waste your money on anything but welding cable....

Good rule of thumb is, if it has a gay name with a bunch of "K"s, "C"s or "X"s where they don't belong, don't buy it.....

Pretty much...

Anything else is a waste of $$. And an inferior product. My opinion though... So take it for what it is...

I upgrade the big 3 on every vehicle I own with 1/0 welding cable. In my opinion, it's the best bang for the buck upgrade you can do to your electrical system period, and it is essential when installing an aftermarket stereo system.
