How much power for 2x15 Q's sealed.

Recommended Posts

I have experience with a ported 12" BTL (2500RMS amp) last year. and a ported 12" BL (1500RMS amp) before that.

Figured I'd save up a do 2x15" Q's with options in a sealed enclosure.

Would a 2500RMS amp be enough, or would they require more power than that since the drivers will be fighting vacuum?

Recommended size per sub is 2.0-2.6sqft.

Goal is to slam the lows, should I aim for a smaller or larger enclosure.

Also, what's recommended for dual drivers, separate or shared internal space?

Not sure why you picked a sealed enclosure type if your goal is maximum output in the lower spectrum.

Anyway, "2500watts rms amp" is plenty of power, I would use a shared internal volume.

Or the Q lineup for that matter..

WHAAAAAAT!!!??

OK, so two 15 Q's in a sealed will do no good for lows?

I figured this setup would move alot of air and still maintain good SQ.

Sealed enclosure will not "slam the lows" they tend to shine in the higher end of the spectrum. A low tuned ported enclosure will be better for your goal. say 32hz for example. If you can't fit 2 15's in a ported i'd go 1 15 ported in a properly sized and tuned enclosure.

2 15s in a sealed enclosure can still be very loud, it's all relative to the user.

Since your goals are pretty basic as the usual "I want it to be loud and sound good", it's hard to say which route would be best for you.

With my other subs I've done various sized enclosures tuned to 32, 30, and 28Hz.

They all performed well on the lows, yet I found that's all they were good for and that's all I listened too, since the higher end of the spectrum 60-80Hz sounded not so good.

I figured a sealed would provide me with a more evenly sounding output but still move quite a bit of air.

I'm not looking for loud, did that, and was great for demos, but for my own listening pleasure found it more of a gimmick than anything.

New goal is to sound good but still go deep and move air.

Anyways, I'm under the impression that sealed can hit lower than ported.

Well the drivers you chose should sound very good to you, and with the amount of cone area, and air they can displace, they will still have gobs of output in the sealed enclosure.

Ive owned 2 15" Q's myself.. Ported enclosure tuned anywhere from 30-34hz will sound great. And 2500 rms is good for both they can take a bit more than rated with the added options.

Power is good... On a side note, I have an Q 18 on a mmats dhcx2200.1 in 4.5 cuft sealed box in my gp. It gets low when needed! And NO I don't mean 149 at 31hz..... Lol

but for a sealed box it DOES get low. Have let ppl hear it, ALL have guess ported box....

And it sounds good on everything I listen too so I'm happy!! :-). GL op!!
