SA 12's Enclosure

Recommended Posts

Need to hit all of the Sundown owners up to what boxes you have used. Ihave 2 SA 12's that i will be running at a 2ohm load off a Kicker ZX1000.1. Ihave always had sealed boxes and thought that they were better for SQ and the lower bass notes. I am open to suggestions as i have NEVER used one of these subs before.

If i should go ported what should it be tuned to and how many cubic ft for 2?

If sealed should i use poly fill and if so how much and how many cubic ft for 2?

Any reference material or you tube videos you can link me to would be great.

thanks guys.

For 1000wrms to two SA-12 I would run them in a 4.0^3ft enclosure. I like to tune low. Around 30hz.

You could contact Ram Designs and he will design an enclosure for you.

I agree with the 4ft^3 at 30hz, maybe even 4.25ft^3 since you're not running a whole lot of power to them. The larger box will up the overall efficiency and improve low-end output as well. The ported box will dominate a sealed box above 25hz, which is really as low as you'd need your subs to play 99% of the time.

Those sa12's aren't too shabby. I've had 1 running in my truck for several months till just recently. I did a 1.7 cu ft tuned at like 30 hz and it seemed like a tighter basss but then built one about 2.25ish at 30 hz and it got alot louder on the low notes. Seemed to move more air in the bigger box. Both were ran off an audiopipe ap1500d at 2 ohms which as its written is 900 rms. I came to the conclusion I'll do at least 2 cu ft per sa12 in any future setups. And I just bought a match for the one I had and plan to put them in my new vehicle. Not sure I was any help but that's just my own personal experience your results will very Im sure

I have my sa-12 in a 1.95 cu. ft. box tuned to 31 hz I'm feeding it about 800 watts and it kills the lows but lacks on the higher notes (40hz+).

Just an fyi, neither of those statements are right 100% of the time. The variance in the percentage is all based on the box design and regularly or when designed right your statements are false.
