Picking the right sub for this setup?

Hi everyone I have a couple of questions regarding a build that I will be helping a friend with.

He has a 96 ford f150 ext cab and wants sub(s) underneath the back seats, front firing.

We're thinking something along the lines of a 8" woofer or woofers. we've measured the area and there's enough height for a 8" sub (there's about 12in of space) and depth there's about 16-18in of space. And width there's about 30in of space.

He doesn't want the sub to stick out he wants it either flush with the seat or a little bit less.

He wants to buy a sundown 100.2 which is most likely going to happen. (thanks ohjay) and run it bridged 4 ohms @ 400watts.

Now, what sub(s) should we choose? This would be a SQ build, solely for listening and everyday.

He listens to rap, hip hop, dubstep, music with good bass, and he also listens to country (he has seleniums outside of his truck lol)

Budget is no more than $200 at the very most.

We were thinkin 2 sundown e8s but been hearing they aren't very good sealed, which is what we want to do.

Or maybe 1 sundown sa8 but then that would have to be ported, and we are not box builders lol.

He wants it all sundown (we're running a sundown team at my school lol) but are there any other good 8" subs out there?

Would you guys recommend instead of front firing, have the subs face up? We don't know what would sound the greatest..

This not an "SQ" build. Your asking for trouble stating it is an "SQ" build.

Your basically looking for a good all around daily setup. If wanting an all Sundown system then the E8v.2 is what you will be wanting. They can go as small as .6ft^3 per sub ported tuned to 35hz. With your listening tastes and amplifier power I think this will be a great start.

Imo they sound fine sealed but I think you would be better off running ported. You youngins like da' bass lol.

Ive always found in a truck that downfiring the sub works best under the rear seat. Building a ported enclosure is as easy as building a sealed enclosure, its just the design that will throw off a novice builder.

More than likely too deep. SD10 or 12 might also be an option though.

We don't want down firing, we want to be able to see the Subs lol. I guess the e8s ported is our plan... We aren't good at designing ported boxes, especially something like this, and tuning...... AAAAH.

As always start by explaining/measuring EXACTLY how much space you have. It is just plain asinine to shop for drivers in a limited space build until you do.

I wouldn't use an 8". Especially sealed. It won't have enough output for your goals. The box for a 10" will be similar in net volume to what you would need for an 8" and you'll have the cone area advantage.

its very simple to build a ported box. you dont need to design the box, we can help you with that.

did you already buy the amp? really you dont have the budget to get picky with brands and shit.

Oh. We wanted sealed cause we thought it would be easier compared to ported and sealed supposely has a better "tight" bass and as the guys stated at my local audio shop "cleaner bass" than ported. I believed them, sorta made sense in my head lol. We are actually hoping to buy the amp next week. Not too shabby price. He had to buy big battery and thick wires for amp wiring and big 3. He's being budget-minded.

No he's saying choosing an 8 based on no information on your space makes no sense and generically speaking 10's make more sense than 8's.

The guys at the store are idiots. Either way your friend doesn't care about clean or tight. For god sakes he listens to Selenium's so that is obviously the case.

I agree with you on that though. Seleniums suck lol. He has them outside his truck though, underneath his front bumper. He uses it at TCR and when we're simply hangin out at the park or sonethin.

I don't know enough about your space constraints to give you any solid advice. Get that figured out first as stated. I wouldn't go sealed if you have the room to port. I was speaking in generalities. Usually a 10" will work with a similar net volume as an 8" in a ported enclosure. Especially a low tuned one.
