Is this a true 2000 watt amp?

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I found someone selling this amp on craigslist and wanted to make sure that it is a true 2000 watt amp otherwise I know I'll be getting ripped off.

The amp is:

2000 watt Performance Teknique

I just want to make sure it's not similar to something like a kenwood amp that doesn't give off as much watts as what it really says.

Thanks!

About how many watts do you think it's really putting out rather than 2000?

Are there any other reasons that you think it's junk besides that it probably doesn't put out 2000watts?

Thanks for your help

audiopipe is about the cheapest company you will find that actually attempts to put out rated power @1%THD.

Would it power 2 L5 kicker 12's good?

Thanks again for the help!

How much are they asking for it? I personally wouldn't buy it for pretty much any price. Like Sizzzon said Audiopipe is decent for a budget amp. My Cadence ZRS 9 took a dump on me so I bought the AP1500 to hold me over and am more then impressed for the price of 140 shipped brand new.

Here is what someone is offering me:

2 12" L5 Kicker Subs

2000 Watt performance teknique amp

Box the subs are in.

The wires.

All for $350 but I don't know if it's a good deal or not. I'll probably just end up buying the subs and the box but not the amp.

Do you think it's a good deal?

I'm not a huge Kicker fan but if you get the two 12's and the box for a great price it might be a good choice. If they are in good shape. As far as the amp I'd steer clear.

Hey everyone I found someone selling this amp on craigslist and wanted to make sure that it is a true 2000 watt amp otherwise I know I'll be getting ripped off.

The amp is:

2000 watt Performance Teknique

This one.. with the single 80A fuse recommendation? Its rated at 2000wrms PEAK. That 900wrms rating is most likely inflated too.. youll probably get around 800wrms if youre lucky

Nope. They are junk.

I agree that the amp doesn't do anywhere near it's advertising.

But how do you come to the conclusion that it does 800watts rms?

Edit: I see how you calculated that. You did the amp fusing (80a) * 10 and got 800watts? Is this some trick you learned somewhere? :greddy2:

I've owned a performance teknique it's the worst amp I've ever owned. It doesn't do close to rated and it doesnt produce clean bass

Boo Peak rating. You could claim a 2000w peak on a 50w amp. I'd run like hell from that thing and avoid buying subs from the guy selling it. If he's that clueless the likely hood of everything being in ok shape and worthwhile is about 0%.

its kind of a trick lol... in my hifonics manual it says the brz1200 takes a 120amp fuse... the brz1700 takes a 170amp fuse... the brz2100 takes a 200amp fuse.... and my brz2400 takes a 250amp fuse... and the 3000 takes a 300amp fuse... even though i dont think they make the brz3000 anymore cause i cant find them anywhere...

I did 80Amps x 14.4volts x .7 for efficiency

Perhaps before answering you should have multiplied 14.4 x 0.7 ;)

Sounds like a plan though. I'll release a 20w stereo amplifier and include a 200w fuse. :) By your math, when I offer it for a $200 you'll shit and buy a truckload.

Assuming an amplifiers efficiency is well, an assumption. Fuse rating could be on the larger side of things for marketing, or it could be super super inefficient, either way, not a good way for calculating power. Technically a lot more amperage can pass through a fuse rated for xxx.

Efficiency changes depending on the material being played, as frequency changes so does the impedance on the output side...

I don't have any advice on "finding out if an amp really makes rated power", I guess you could use a dmm, clamp meter, a calculator, and some pen & paper, but why bother? It's always changing...

Ugh, I wont even bother arguing with you :D

Although I dont post too much, I read a LOT... and I know that youll prove me wrong haha

Yeah, thats true. I was just estimating power output. I never said that thats how much power he'd get.. I say "if he was lucky," he'd get that power ;)

I completely agree with the bolded.

Be hard to prove that 14.4 * 0.7 isn't ~10 ;)

As for the fusing, my point wasn't to argue but to point out its a useless metric. As EVERY rule of thumb is that you've ever read. Smells like more SMD misinformation to me, although there are a plethora of other places it could have stemmed from.

Oh, and you could have argued you'd only pay $175 :fing34:

Lastly, you should post more. Best way to learn is to teach.

The 2000 watt peak rating is what is known as "ISBL" rating.

"If Struck By Lighning" = ISBL
