DCON 10 enclosure depth questiong

I have a DCON 10 currently in a ported enclosure, but just don't really care much for the sound. My car seems to have a nasty 40-45hz boost and almost no bass around 60hz with the sub rear facing in the trunk. I've tried moving the box around and have been able to get better sound with it corner loaded firing basically across the trunk. However, the box I have is really too big to fit like that, so I am wanting to construct a new one. The question that I have is how much space do I need behind the woofer for the vented pole? I'm trying to make the box as shallow as possible. The sub has 6" mounting depth and I'm assuming I would need another 2 inches or so to be safe? I'm thinking I can go longer with the box, the length of the side of the trunk.

What are the specs of your box? What vehicle? I've just never heard someone complain about the sq of a DCON.

Half the width of the pole vent is all you need, any less and you can pop a dustcap off, it's rare but can happen.

The box was built by a local shop and is supposedly net of 1.25 cu ft with a slot port tuned to 33 hz. I dont think there is anything wrong with the box specs or the sub. It is installed in a 2010 ford fusion behind the seats fring back into the trunk. I'm assuming it is more a result of the cars transfer function. I had the enclosure and car modeled with software and it is showing the same thing I am measuring, the peak at 38 - 43 hz is 10 db + the level at 50- 70 hz. It makes all low material overpowering and very boomy.

Now, I took that same box and turned it sideways so it would fire across the trunk it sounded way better with a more even response. The box I have now has a slanted back, so it won't fit the way I want to fire it, without taking up half the trunk. Was wanting to keep the enclosure depth around 9 inches, only leaving about 1.5 inches ish behind the woofer. Any more depth and I start running interfering with the spare tire removal.

Based on that last post, it really sounds like the interaction of the sound and how well it can travel into the cabin.

I have been thinking about "porting" the rear deck where the 6x9 holes are to get more sound into the cabin. Wonder if that would sound better. The other option is to get some equalization to cut the 40 hz signal. I hope people aren't getting the impression that I think it is the sub that is the problem. The sub is excellent and really plays low with authority. It all has to do with the box I have it in, the placement and the car acoustics. I am still shocked at the output this sub has runing off only 300 watts.
