In Need of Electrical Information!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello, everyone. I am admitting to being a newb at this stuff but hey, everyone was, at once, one as well lol I had a couple RE SX12's hooked up to a 1600W amp in my last car with a 105 amp alternator and they sounded amazing but it was hooked up with no electrical upgrades, not even big 3, so the lights dimmed out when the bass hit. I have bought a used car now and the alternator is most likely between 80-105 amps and my new amp is 2400W (Hifonics BRZ2400.1D - latest model). I am also debating between a DC Audio level 4XL 15, level 5 15, AA mayhem 15 or even an 18 of any of those. I know they are all amazing woofers but I dont know which one would perform optimally with my amp. I am also trying to figure out what kind of electrical upgrades I need. Big 3 is a sure thing, but would i need to get a new alternator, battery/power cell, capacitor(s)? Any help is appreciated. Thanks, everyone in advance!

That's a lot of watts and current draw, at the very minimum get a good battery to put under the hood, see what happens from there. Don't buy a capacitor.

Big 3, and good battery under the hood, and you would benefit from getting a new alternator. Who knows though, you'll have to figure it out by yourself installs vary greatly!

best bet would be upgrading your alternator, and perhaps adding an extra battery.

as for the sub choice, the 4xls or mayhems would be my top choices

I have a guy who competes who installed my last set up so i know the install will be good. but maybe ill do big 3, get a 300 amp alt and a kinetik 2400.

A 300 amp alt is overkill.

Mechman has a killer deal for 3 more days, a 220A for $350. That the biggest XS Power battery you can fit under the hood, and a single XS D3100 in the back and you'll be able to support a 3.5KW system.

For sub choice, Fi BTL N2, of course.

SO, pretty much I would be good with a 220 amp alt, a kinetik under the hood and 3100 in the back?

And, if I were to go with the level 4XL, should i wire to to 1 ohm for 2400W or 2 ohms for 1700W??

Biggest XS Power battery you can fit under the hood, then a single XS D3100 in the back. That and a 220A alt from Mechman will give you plenty of room for upgrade down the road. Personally, I'd wire it to one ohm, you just have to know what you're doing. Basically, don't be stupid with the gain, check the cone for warmth or smell the port for a burning smell. Also, if you hear distortion, turn it down!

will 2400 watts supply enough power to get the mayhem going? AA says the mayhem is 2500W rms

How do the btl's sound with only 2400W pushing each sub?? arent they 300W rms?

also thinking about the zcons, but ive never heard the zcons, btls, level 4 xls or mayhems so I really dont know how to choose bc I am not familiar with what to look for in TS parameters. basically just a touch daily driver thats not gonna give me problems if i crank it up. I know people have told me that I will not be disappointed with any of them and I am aware of that but Im looking for an actual answer like how do the speakers differ?

Fi btl all day sir

Will I be able to properly power the sub with just 2400W? and if that is enough power, I am looking for it to be a daily driver so what options should I put on it? I am kinda leaning towards either the BTL or Mayhem but I dont know if my amp can power them properly.

All the subs you're thinking about are excellent. Fi/AA are built by the same company in the same building in Vegas both excellent. Everybody opinion is going to be subjective so just flip a coin on each one. Good luck on your choice.

There is no such thing as under powering a speaker.

"2400w" is plenty for a btl or mayhem.

Lots of mayhems for sale right now too on this board! 2 15"s and 2 18"s (or there were as of yesterday) I'd check out those threads. Some pretty good deals and you don't see mayhems for sale used very often

Hey, man thanks for the info! I gotta get my info straight lol but will both of those speakers perform about the same on 2400W considering the power handling is higher on the BTL? Ive always thought that I was supposed to have an amp putting out around the power handling value.

And also, can anyone msg me and lmk a price on a new mayhem 15 and mayhem 18? I have a pontiac vibe and dont know which size will perform better in the car. Thinking of doing either sub up/port back or sub back/port back.

its a marketing scam bro, 2400w will be plenty. let me ask this just to make it clear, do your subs or speakers sound bad when you turn the volume down? obviously not!

how much space do you have available?

according to the website the 15 need 3-5 cubic feet each, and the 18 5-8 cu.ft., not including port displacement.

give us your max dimensions.
