ASTRO VAN WALL NEED HELP!

Recommended Posts

I have been approached by a customer with 4 Kicker Warhorses and 4 Kicker Solo X 18s. He is having me build a 1990 Astro van to be all out SPL. i am looking for any help in the matter of tips, tricks, pointers, etc on how to do this install. Lexan windows are already in plans. Concrete floor will be a must (how do i do this? how thick? what kind of concrete? just the cabin or all the way back?). Lowering roof (how should i do this? what should i use?). Custom Dash (what do i use? how should i construct it? what shape?). Center Counsel (should I build one? just leave it open space? what should I build it with? how should design be?). should i cover the wall floor roof dash in anything or leave raw? Kicker is helping me with the box design on it as well. This will be built to compete is Super Mod 4001+ in USACI. Please any help and pictures are greatly appreciated

Might be best to steer the customer to someone who knows what they are doing concerning extreme spl builds? Not trying to put you down in any way, just that this seems like it may be a bit beyond your current skill level.

there is only 1 guy remotly close to us that knows alot about these and a good friend of mine. he has never done anything like this (has been walled for 11 years and changed his wall every year and built 4 other ones). other then that there is no one around us. the other 3 shops in the city im from wont even build custom boxes. they are prefab only! i have built 3 walls before just no extreme vehicles

I'm not sure where you should start with that, maybe finding someone who builds vaults could help? :ughdunno:

ok i have basically everything figured out now for the build....just would like a little help with box size and tuning.

Here is how i am building the box-please give comments or feedback and suggestions to change it if you have and ideas tips or tricks please let me know!

solid 2x4 outer shell

8 layers 3/4" thick front and rear

4-5 layers thick top sides and bottom

front baffle-sub cut outs- 1st 2 layers will be snug to subs then will flare out

on the sub side of port the baffle wood will be rounded and a 6" pvc will be snug fit around it

on drivers side of port mdf will angle to b pillar and pvc will be used to smooth if needed

inside in all corners will be 6" pvc mitered into the next for full flush fit

all pvc i will be using 1 1/2 oz chop mat on front and back to add strength then glueing and screwing in. bondo will be used to smooth for screws followed by resin

all interior of box will have 4 layers of resin------resin 80 grit resin 80 grit resn 80 grit finally resin the 80 grit working up to 220 grit

i will be doing solid wood wall face for starters then will try putting deadening on as ive seen alot of people do this unless someone has some ideas there???

also i want to paint the inside because i have heard this helps, what kind of paint should i use? how many coats? should i do a high grit sand after it? just paint and leave?? no knowledge here on this

the van will be built for USACI modified 4001+ which allows any and all mods behind b-pillar and only deadening in front of it. i will be deadening the front the first day i have the van as we are waiting on the rest of equipment. i will also be only using the rear floor space for 16 xs d3100s other then that im open for room. the warhorses will only take up 1 warhorse wide by 1 warhorse long and approx 2 feet tall as i am stacking the 4 like i have my 2 and will be mounted in rear above the batts. we are know also in talks about getting some modded 18" nsv2 from jacob and waiting to here back from him as we hear the solo x line is being discontinued by kicker. also i will be running 6 runs of 1/0 front to back and 4 runs 1/0 gr frnt to back with 4 more 1/0 grounds to frame in rear. the batts and amps will be above the rear axle (has 1800 bags and new shocks and upgraded tires). this van was walled before with 24 kin 16v, 4 RD D9s, and 4 RD Extra heavy weight 18s and hit 159.7 but there were issues that could not be figured out---amps hit protect everytime kicked on and wouldnt do full burps. this was looked into alot with the end result being the van got stripped. the only things left were the headliner and all interior in front of b-pillar which is all i need! please if any one has any ideas to help better this or better my ideas for the box please let me know!

Thanks

Tyler
