Thinkin Bout Goin MECA

Recommended Posts

Alright I think I'm going to start competiting in MECA. Sort of confused on the fuse rating thing though. Anyone wana help me see what class I would be in? I would like to compete in AS or Drive By. I think I would do better in AS to start off with.

The local state record is 144.2 and thats AS2. Should I have a problem with that? Also one other thing. It doesn't say that I can/can't have an upgraded alternator. Should I just not put it on or go ahead and put it on? Not sure what to do in that situation. Also it says no resins or anything. Does that mean in the box? I can't coat the inside with resin? What all could I do to help get the dBs up? Thanks for any help.

Mike

Alternator doesn't matter because AS is tested with the car off.

As for the fuse rule, what don't you understand exactly? There has to be an inline fuse 18" (physically) from the amp. That fuse is the one that is used in determining your pressure class (the smaller the fuse, the better).

And you are correct about the resin. You are not allowed to use resin or duct tape in AS (stupid rule, i know).

And an FYI, AS is now metered at the HEADREST, not in the kick.

How do I figure what size fuse would I need?

Run whatever fuse you can. :)

The biggest fuse you can fit into a class for instance. If you can get your amp to burp on a 20 amp fuse (and it puts you into a smaller class) then do it. But if you can use a 30 amp fuse in the same class, then run that.

Basically you want to max out the lowest class you can possibly fit in. For instance, i was in S1 with 2 10's and a 50 amp fuse. I could've used a 60 amp fuse, but that would've bumped me up to S2 where i could use a MUCH larger fuse.
