i need help with box design

Recommended Posts

my buddy has one thats 2.85 and optimal for these subs is 2.70, is that to far off??

im not gunna, that was really stupid of me, i was calculating my box TOTALLY wrong and it seemed like there was a difference but i see now there is none. i really want a ported box, but how do i calculate the cu.ft of a ported box?

SSA lists 4cf. but I'd think you could be ok with as little as 3cf. I didn't know you had these installed already. do you have a pic?

How does 22" deep sound? 16x33x22. I haven't quite got the details down yet, but it should end up close to 4cf.

Ok, I've got a final design. 15x33x22. net vol = 3.5 cf. 3.5x14.5 slot port. Port and subs facing back. you should get about 6db more out of this box at 40hz. (than your sealed box) That is like adding 2 more subs!

The port is only 14.5 inches long?

Could be wrong, but I believe 14.5 is the height.

Not if the height is 15", that would make the port height 13.5". I think I see what he did, the 14.5 is the second port length after the turn. If that is the case the box is tuned pretty low, I'd go for a bit higher tuning, more port area, and a double baffle.

You're right, I was looking at the post before that one when he said 16". Perhaps he accidentally hit 5 instead of 6?

thanks for everything Duane, anything and everything you can give me will be a HUGE help.

i've never built anything like this before but i have a contractor buddy that will help with the build

Sorry about the typo. I didn't draw any more braces cause the drawing was cluttered enough. You should add at least two more braces to tie the top and bottom of the main box together. just make sure they aren't in the way of the subs or their vents.
