An affordable enclosure with a Genisis 15 (well almost)

Recommended Posts

Even though the cones and spiders I recieved were not correct I was able to come up with a little something to test the coil and motor I will be using. You can see from the pictures the OD of the surround is a little to close to the mounting holes. The spider was also a little large so that had to be trimmed a bit.

So far I am happy with the coil. 250-500 watts is all that will be needed for daily listening. Any more power really didn't result in much more output on the TL that would justify more power for daily listening. I ran a Bass Mechanic cd on it full tilt for 30 min straight with apprx. 980 watts clamped and the "Coil Bonder" glue smelled a little but the coil looked and functioned properly. So far I have put about 30 hours of play on it and it looks and sounds fine.

It'll work but this type enclosure isn't my type. Just like any other sub these will work in a wide range of enclosures. The soft parts aren't to spec I just used them to abuse test the coil and motor. But in a 2.5 cubic foot enclosure tuned to 20 hertz it gets pretty nasty for a "sq" sub.

I'll have mire info in a few weeks when the correct parts arrive. In the mean time look at the other thread with the flex videos.

The surround is overkill, it's 32mm (I think), we are going with a rubber 25 wide x 25 tall surround on the 15 and a 24 wide x 24 tall surround on the 10 and 12. With a slightly lighter cone and an aluminum dustcap.

The softparts on the one pictured are the same exact parts you would find on other US companies' subs.
