Help needed - system questions

Recommended Posts

I'm new at car audio and this is the first system I'm installing in my car. I'm hoping that some of you can answer my questions. I recently bought two Alpine Type R 10" subs and I was wondering if a MB Quart DSC 1500.1D amp will be able to power both of these subs.

Also I'm looking for a good 2Din headunit that has navigation, bluetooth, usb, and dvd playback. I've been looking at a few online, but I'm lost when it comes to quality and good brands to look at. Also, are these headunit usually powerful enough to handle two Alpine Type R coaxial speakers or will I need an amp for those too? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

My system I'm trying to put together is going to look something like this:

Alpine Type R 10" subs (2)

Alpine Type R 6x8 coaxial speaker (2)

Headunit (2 Din, Navi, BT, USB, DVD Playback)

This unit is going in a 2004 Mustang Mach. Any suggestions or tips you might have will be greatly appreciated. Things like amp, headunit, etc suggestions is welcome.

Thanks inadvance for any help!

That MB Quart amp will provide plenty of power for those Type Rs. As for the head unit, I can't tell you much as I don't use any of those features and run a old ass Alpine cd player myself. A good head unit should provide enough power for those coaxials in your setup though, install them and then decide whether or not you would like to give them more power.

:WELCOME: to SSA, let's see some pics of that 'stang!

What is the impedance of the coils of your subs? If I recall correctly they were offered in both D2 and D4.

For headunits - hard to help without knowing your budget.

Amplifiers for your speakers - never a bad idea, the amplification inside headunits are pretty weak and cheaply built/designed. That said; whether or not it's worth the expense depends on your goals for the system and your budget. If budget wasn't a concern; yes, I would get an external amplifier for them.

IMO the head unit is just fine for those 5x's as long as you get a decent head unit, you can set them just the way they need to be.

i do have 1 question....

why have you chosen the equipment that you have ?

Thanks for the quick replies!

@Ohjay Thanks for the welcome and I'll try to get pictures. I'm in afghanistan right now so its kind of hard.

@Impious I believe the impedence for those subs are D4 and basically my budget for a headunit is around a grand.

@bigjon Basically I choose the Type R subs and coaxials because all the research I've done and all the systems I've heard, the type r always seem to grab my attention. The sound awesome and my job also gives me a pretty nice discount on alpine speakers and subs. As far as the amp, it's basically the only amp I could find that had enough power to support the RMS of both subs without getting too costly.

As far as the headunit. I was looking at the Alpine INA-W910. Does anyone have any experience with this unit? It seems to have everything I'm looking for and is within my price range.
