3 10s or.....

Recommended Posts

Just a heads-up, it could've been mentioned and I missed it, but the RE box calculator is NOT correct. It tunes a little on the high side. I would download the Torres Box Tuning Calculator, as it's tuning frequency is correct.

You might also look into the new FCON that SSA is producing! I think they would be perfect for this build!

Good luck! :drink40:

Yea i was just using that calcualtor to determine how big my enlcosure would be not necessarily the tuning but thanks ill check into that torres cal. Does anyone have any info on the fcons or how far along they are or if there even in the production stage? I would take them into consideration if its not too long before there released, im not in any hurry so we'll just see what happens or if denim can chime in on a lil info about them that would be great

So do you guys think i would be better off getting 3 10's or would a 15" btl or zcon be louder? i was thinking since its more cone area that the 3 10's would get louder off the same power but then again the btl and zcon are beasts?

according to an spl-labs meter it peaks it 25hz and will drop to 21-22hz no problem. i haven't gotten it on a tl yet so i'm not sure what kind of numbers it's doing yet

How did you come to the conclusion your setup peaks at 25hz on the meter?

Theoretically it would be a little louder, but in a perfect world you need to double the cone area to see a 3db increase in output. The difference isn't enough to be audibly louder and there are too many factors to say for sure. When comparing two different models of subs there are other factors that will make more of a difference. For simplicity's sake I would personally just get a 15.

well iv been into simplicity for some time now and all i ever see is 12's and just wanna change it up a bit, just didnt know if id be wasting my time if one of those 15's would murder the 3 sa-10's or if they would be around the same output. If there really wouldnt be an audible difference between a 15" zcon or 3 SA-10's then id want to go with the 3 10's because i havnt seen that around here and would awsome to pop the trunk to 3 subs haha, not really asking to compare just asking if it would be worth it as of output wise

peak hold and running a sweep a few times

I usually add another 1/16th of an inch for the gasket

ok cool cuz here is what i was thinking for 3 sa-12's

31" long 15" high and 26" deep for a total of about 5.6 cuft

Just dont know if i could fit the 3 12's on top cuz of the 26" of depth, it would be a tight sqeeze

If it's not to late you could always go with 3 10" Fi X's with the bp power option, that should be enough power handling for them to be wired at 1.33 ohms off of your amp, and who doesn't love running Fi? lol and btw, sounds like a fun build!

haha yea i thought about doing the x's but id want something with a little more power and output, im pretty much sure im gonna do either 4 sa-10's or 4 IA lethal injections just dont know which one to choose lol.

if u won the IA giveaway your decision would be made for you lmao

U can fit 4 10's but not 3 12's?

wouldnt it be cheaper to get 3 12's?

o

o o

just space the bottom two apart enough so the top one can fit lower, kinda between them

haha that would be sick, but yes its because my max depth is 26 inches and 2 12's would be a very tight fit because they would be top mounted, if i get 4 10's then thats about 21" its going to look like this , if i could id just do 2 12" bl's but i dont have the length for it cuz my max length is 31" and the 2 12's would be 25 plus the port and box thickness

OO

OO

Thats how they would be sitting in the box on top

its not letting me post the picture like i want

You dont have to line the subs up, they can be offset and it will look cool as well, thats why i believe it might be possible to fit three 12's

i thought u were using aero ports

yes ill be using aero ports mounted in the front, its just 2 12's sitting side by side would be about 26" and would be touching the ends of the box, if i got 4 10's id have about 5inches to work with, and also i think it would look a little awkward using 3 subs instead of 4 and with 4 i can get a 1ohm load, where do i get info about the IA giveaway

Ok, personally three 12's in a triangle would look cool, thats what i was trying to draw in the first place, the bottom subs would be separated enough to allow the top sub to sit lower, giving more room.

ahhh i see what your saying now, so do you really think that 3 12's of the same caliber would be any louder then 4 10's on a little more power

I dont think there will be enough difference in cone area or power to audible

12's have a tad cone area advantage and the 10's will have a tad more power

is the 5.6 cubic feet you mentioned net or gross?

How much are you looking to spend? What are your goals? What kind of music do you listen to predominately? Will you be competing? What do you really want out of this system?

Sorry if I came off a little harsh but this is :greddy2: You need to answer these questions before you can make a decent decision.

I apologize, I somehow missed your max dimensions. I don't think you'll be happy with three 12s in that space.

well im pretty much sure i answered the space question well, Also my budget has already been said, around a 600w decent sub for about 150-200$ each, the music i listen to mostly is old school hip hop reggae classic rock and underground (which has been destroyed), If a show comes to my town then it would be nice to get metered but no not competing, I want my system loud while retaining some nice sound, Its all good man hope you understand what my goals are a little better
