Custom Port into cabin?

Recommended Posts

I just purchased a used 2007 Lexus ES350 which has a factory 10" subwoofer on the rear deck. It accomplishes some midbass, but just doesn't fill the cabin like I'd hoped. I want to install a Sundown SA-12 along with my existing Rockford 1000bd (I won't have it turned all the way up most likely). While I realize the RF Amp probably isn't best at a SQ install, I'm hoping the Sundown can fit the bill.

My question is: Is it possible to make a box that can fire through the fold down armrest in the rear seat or up through the deck? How complex would something like this be in order to eliminate the loss or sludgy sound of bass firing into the trunk?

My main reason is to try and conserve as much of the trunk space as possible, and to minimize the rattles outside/inside the car along with trying to do a stealth an install as possible.

I used to be very much SPL, but now am focusing more on SQ/""SQL"" as I get "older" :)

Thanks in advance for your time!

i'm not sure how custom you want to get but you could always remove the 10 and replace it with the 12 in a sealed box firing thru the rear deck...

My thinking with porting through the ski hole is that you need to seal off the trunk from the cabin to get the best effect. Other than that I think itd be as simple as building an external port through the ski hole.

Really depends on your goals which aren't so clear. Lots of "direct" options: IB on a manifold, 4th/6th order BP through a port and of course just a normal box in the trunk which may be more than adequate to fit your needs. Have to describe them more (and fyi, don't use terms like SQ or SPL but instead actually put it into phrases that describe something)

Your amplifier wont affect sound quality enough for you to notice. Any particular reason you're thinking about the SA-12 for your goals? Clearly defining exactly what it is you want will enable the members here to give you the best possible advice
