1991 CRX si

Recommended Posts

Hey DC,

I've emailed you in the past about which alt to get for my car and I've decided to get a 180 hp for my 1.6l D16A6 1991 Honda CRX si. My car isn't listed on your site to order, so i used a 1992 Honda civic 1.6 (same motor) and they are sold out. So I'm just checking if there is any difference between the two and if there are any in stock, just not listed on the website. Another reason I want to check if there is any difference because i was quoted $10 lower than the '92 civic alt. Which is no big deal, just another factor leading me to believe there is a subtle difference in the alts. If there are none in stock, is there a time frame you can give me on when one will be available for me?

If you want/need a reference number for our email "conversation" is #XVL-844631.

Thanks,

Emery

Emery, *technically* we have the alts, just no housings. Unfortunately this is one of the parts we buy from Denso that is manufactured IN Japan.. Our lead time with Denso is 120 days, and they are about that much late at this point.. Long story short, as soon as we start running our small billet cases, we will be adding this one to the mix as it's a very popular application. It's absolutely murdering us right now with parts availability (the lack thereof) and since a lot of what we get is proprietary to/from Denso, if they ain't got it, we're kinda screwed. I may have a small shipment of these coming in on the 15th however, so it may only be a couple weeks.. Sorry about the delay, Rob

That's alright. I'm not in too big of a rush. Also, i read that i'm able to order through SSA (when available), would i just PM Aaron or Mark to do so? Is there a price difference if i do that?

Another thing, i read you guys are working on 6 groove pulleys for our hondas, is that true? If so should i wait for that as well?

You can order through SSA if you want to, I'm sure Mark would appreciate that..

Yes, we are working on the pulley, just not real sure of the demand and whether I *should* do it.. If you want one, and can get me a crank to verify along with dimensions between your crank and the inner fender we may work something out.. If I can make it out of 6" round, they wont be terribly expensive, if i had to make it out of 8", forget it.. iirc the pulley from front edge to back is about 2.5" which is ~3" of material, a 1.75" slug of 6061 weighs ~9lbs and is $3/lb so material alone for a 7.75" pulley would be $70.. Like I said, if you really, really want one, I can make it for you, it's not like I dont have the machinery to do it..

Ahh, i thought it was something you guys were planning on doing to change what comes standard of the alts. I shouldn't have to deal with much slipping on the 180, right? It looks like this is only a 2 groove pulley, but decent belt contact. There is no where you're getting 2.5" from the back of the pulley to the fender, MAYBE 1". I think ill see how it goes with the standard pulley, if there is too much slipping we can see about a new one. Should I just keep an eye out around the 15th on the website for the shipment that may come in, or should i contact you directly?
