How to Link Amplifiers

Recommended Posts

I'm looking into getting a vehicle with a little more space for some more beat. Right now I have a dual 2 ohm Fi BTL N2 18 being run by an AQ2200D at 1 ohm. If I was to upgrade the system, I would probably get another AQ2200D and another dual 2 BTL. I realize that I could run 1 amp to each sub, but I was wondering if linking the amps made a cleaner signal. It is my understanding that 2 ohms @ 4400 watts is better than 1 ohm @ 2200 watts x 2.

If I was to link the amps, how would I go about doing it? What would need to be input/output from either amp in order to run 4400 watts @ 2 ohms?

Thanks guys! <-------------- :noob:

IF you strap amps they will be 2ohm combined, but each amp will see 1ohm. As for how to strap, better check the user manual. They are not all the same.

Benefit - the master controls both amps settings (gain, SSF, etc)

Downside - if you amp goes, both amps go.

Wait, will the final load be 1 or 2 ohms?

i know how those amps are strapped.

run rcas from headunit to Amp #1

Amp #1 needs to be set to MASTER

Run single rca line from amp #1 to amp #2 (the strap output from master to strap input on slave)

Amp #2 needs to be set to SLAVE

Turn all settings on SLAVE all the way down (not necessary but doesn't hurt)

Master controls both amp's settings.

Now, each amp has 2 sets of + and - speaker terminals.

Take BOTH - terminals from MASTER and run them to the SLAVE's - terminals, both of them!

Now, you have 2 + and 2 + on master and slave.

It doesn't really matter which is which but i'll make you choose for this example.

The MASTER's remaining + terminals ARE positive output.

The SLAVE's remaining + terminals ARE negative output.

The End

Thanks for the info Shizz! Two questions (might be extremely stupid, so prepare yourself):

Does the slave amp need to have a remote wire plugged in?

Do you need to run power to and ground the slave amp?
