alternator/battery setup

Recommended Posts

I'm going to be pushing 3300 rms in a 5.3l 2002 Chevy Avalanche. I've heard all the great reviews on Mechmans products but its a bit pricey. What h.o Alternator and battery do u guys recommend that won't break the bank. The system is only gonna be a daily driver.

Any good H.O alternator is going to cost you a few hundred dollhairs. You're probably going to spend around $900 or so on a good alt and a couple of batteries if you're buying new.

$450 for mechmans Alternator and $260 for an Xs 3400 battery.

That is their price. Alot of people really like Mechman and their are some that do not.

IMO if you go cheap on an alternator it probably will not last long.

Ok originally my Alternator is 105 amps is a 270 necessary for 3300 rms watts?

Pretty much, your vehicle uses a good bit already and you're going to put an extra 230amp + load on the electrical system.

More when it comes to electrical is ALWAYS better, its easier to buy one large alternator, instead of buying a smaller one and say "shit this isn't enough" and have to sell that smaller one (and probably lose money) to buy a larger one.

Have you thought about running dual alts?

Dual alts will most likely be more expensive than a singular large alternator.

I know :P he would get :morepower1: though!

Seriously though, I think a big ho alt in the 250-270 range and a couple of big batteries would be the best route.

this is getting blown WAY out of proportion...

Get your setup installed, THEN monitor and measure voltage drop, quit playing the speculation or guessing game.

When you see your voltage dropping below 13v more often then not when jamming WHILE driving, then get a 2nd batt back there from XS Power.

IF your voltage is still dropping below 13v WHILE driving, get an alt around 180A, but no lower from DC Power or Mechman.
