new setup for new car!!!

Recommended Posts

I just bought a dodge stealth and I'm having a box built to take up where the spare tire is and I'm gonna be running a Orion hcca 15.2... My problem is amp choice... I've been looking at the hifonics bxi2006d but I'm not sure it that would be enough power for that sub... I'm tryin to stay under 300 for an amp because I still need to by a HO alt and all my wiring... Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Did you already buy the Orion? What impedence are your voice coils? You've got to include that if you want us to recommend you an amp

No not true. In fact there was a thread posted up earlier this morning where this was mentioned. The OP was asking a question about a pair of Icon 12's if you care to search for it

Yea I got the sub for 300 and they are 2ohms

Ok, well assuming your just running a single 15 you could run it at a 1ohm load or a 4ohm load. You should look for an amp that is rated at 1ohm stable. Some suggestions that come to mind are Sundown and AudioQue, but of course there are many other options. There was a thread for some DD amps posted in the FS section. Rated to do 1000W at 11.9V IIRC. I'm not personally familiar with them, but it may be something worth looking into. GL

Yeah you caught me :P Whoops!

*EDIT: I actually meant $50, but I had 1500 on my mind because of the name of the amp. I was on a phone call and couldn't concentrate haha

It all depends on what a HO alternator is gonna cost... I believe the year and model of my car only has a 90amp alt so I'm gonna have to do the big 3 and alt... You guys know of a place that sells the HO alts for cheap lol...

How much power are you hoping to send to that sub? You get what you pay for, especially when it comes to HO alternators. The SAZ-1500 was mentioned in this thread, if that's what you plan on going with you might be ok with just the big 3 and an extra battery in the trunk. Keep in mind I said might. I can't say for sure the only way to find out is to do it and monitor your voltage. If you need an alternator there's plenty of information around here on the forum. You're likely to get a lot of recommendations for DC power. Personally I'd read some threads on their forum here before you buy.

Why would you want to have a new car, be ready to upgrade to an HO alt and then want to skimp on the amplifier? I would either save up some more money and do it right the first time or downgrade your power so it doesn't cost as much. You don't need 1500 Watts to get loud.

:gayhaaay1: from Kalamazoo, MI. ^^^^I agree with MKader17. Shortcuts in car audio usually end up causing more problems and/or spending more money.

Well I'd like to have 1500-2000rms to the sub.... its gonna be my dd but id also like to be able to hop into a local audio comp when they have them... I'm pretty confident that its gonna be pretty loud already with just the enclosure and type of car its in... And I'm pretty sure I'm gonna need the HO alt because my voltage already drops when I turn my blinker on lol

do the big3 and then add a battery in the rear. Should be fine.:peepwall:

If you still have problems look for an H O alt. But I don't think you will need one for less than 2000 watts rms of power.

Music is dynamic, and you won't always use all the 2000 watts.

Only way to know is to install !

You need to adress your electrical problems before you even think about a HO alternator. If your current alternator is shot I'd want to know why if it were me. Be sure everythings up to par for a new alternator to be installed. Having a loud daily driver and a system for competition use are two different things. You most likely won't hear the difference between a 1000W amp and a 2000W amp to the ear, but it will register on the meter. You seemed to be more focus on the dialy aspect than the competition aspect of the build. Is that correct? Define your goals clearly and someone here can offer better help than if you don't.

You never mentioned the specs on that box either. Your box will have a much larger affect than your amp. Its good to know your box specs to recommend an amp too.

Yea your correct I'm more focused on having a loud dd, and as far as the box specs all he told me is its gonna be 7.2cf and he's gonna resin the inside of the box and all that good stuff.... But I didn't want to buy another alt to put on and then turn around and buy an HO after that so I figured just buy an HO and put on and not buy the stock 90amp... I just want something that's gonna be louder than what anyone has in my town...

I would ask what its going to be tuned to and be sure that its to your liking. I'm not at all familiar with that sub so I don't know if that's the correct ammount of volume. Seems a little high for a single 15 though. Larger box generally handles less power but is more efficient. If that sub is meant to be put in around 4 cubes and your putting it in 7 I would imagine the mechanical handling will be lowered a bit.
