What Do You Think?

Recommended Posts

I purchased an AQ2200D from Audioque on 3/1/11. I received it on 5/3/11, which is o.k. because they told me there was a wait when I ordered (well, after I ordered. They said I could either get my money back or just wait; I chose to wait). When the time came to put the amp in the truck, it didn't work. No, it wasn't set to slave :P We called AQ and tried all troubleshooting options to no avail. Just to be sure wiring was correct, we threw my brother's Hifonics Brutus in place of the 2200D and it worked perfectly. This told me there was, in fact, a problem with the amp. So I did the logical thing and shipped it back to AQ, expecting to get my amp repaired or be sent a new one. Instead, when it showed up, they said they ran tests on it and found nothing to be wrong with it!?

The amp obviously had a problem. I tried all troubleshooting options from the guys on the forum as well as AQ themselves and nothing worked. What could possibly be going on here? AQ told me they could ship it to an "outside amp technician" and see if they found any other problems. Uhhh, what? Do they not have proper testing equipment in house?

I'm not trying to go behind AQ's back here, I just want to get the opinion of some of the guys from SSA. What do you think is going on?

You hook it up to see if it works ...

My company (well, broadcasters) tell us they have no problems but the issues somehow fix themselves like magic ...

Some companys just do not like to admit they make mistakes ...

Just a suggestion ...

That's what I was thinking. I'll see if I can get it shipped back today.

I would try it again once it gets back.

A hidden mark on the amp before you sent it in would let you know if they sent back the same one or not.

If it does work, and they fixed or replaced it without telling you they did anything. That's just shady, I don't like AQ.

Yes, I agree ...

so... we are to assume it's AQ's fault without any other information?

How did it not work?

What wasn't working?

That could be 100 things... you are too broad..

AQ wouldnt send back an amp to you if it wasn't working.

I see too many threads about people not knowing how to setup AQ amps which they are the same as any other modern non-mainstreamed company.

This IS NOT a "help me fix my amp" thread. I already said (if you read my original post) that all troubleshooting options were attempted. The amp was obviously faulty, even the tech guy said it must be a problem with the amp itself. Read the first post, please.

What do I think was going on? Sounds like operator error on your part. Since I don't know anything more than what you originally posted, and since you apparently aren't willing to divulge anything else, that is the most obvious and logical conclusion. Without anymore information than what you posted in the first post, it didn't work when you had it but worked when they had it, that is the only conclusion.

Impious I'm almost certain you attempted to help me at one point and were stumped. The fact of the matter is that the amp was malfunctioning. If you guys really want me to go through the entire process in this thread, I will, but that isn't what this thread is meant for. I didn't just throw the amp in there and conclude it wasn't working in 5 minutes. As I've said twice now, all troubleshooting options were attempted. The amp WAS faulty, there's no doubt in my mind about that.

You should link the thread where you asked for help originally so people can see what it is you did and didn't try

i just checked that thread and i was in there trying to help him diagnose it...

Basically it came down to this-

he said clipping light always remained on.

As far as i know, clipping light is on the remote gain knob only.

So he removed rcas and speaker wire and clipping light was still on and no sound....

I told him to REMOVE the remote gain controller from the amp as a last resort to see what happened but instead he swapped out for a hifonics and worked fine.

Now AQ tells him the amp works fine...

At this point.. sounds like the remote gain knob was faulty but he never checked it...

I can't do a clickable link, I'm on my phone.

That's my fault, I actually did try without the remote gain and it gave the same problem, I forgot to add it in that thread. Remote gain knob wasn't the problem..

Any other ideas?

I live in the country man, nobody checks/cares about I.D.s here as long as youre not on the highway. But I don't drive often, and a lot of times I have my brother with me.

I'm gonna give them a call tomorrow and have them ship it back (which I'll have to pay for). If I get it back and it works, I won't be doing business with them anymore and I'll encourage everyone else to do the same. We'll see...

You had a problem with this AQ amp, but don't tell people AQ is not good and to not buy their products !!!

I have never used any of their product, but I tried to !! AQ was "very professional" with me. They quickly answered me back : "no local (for me) AQ repair center, so no shipping to my country". First I did not like this answer, but I started to appreciate it later ! They look serious !

Until that day, I use Sundown amps with no problem at all so far !!!

I have since bought 7 Sundown amps, and no failure, I cross my fingers !!!
