what paints and primers should i use to paint a subwoofer box

i want it to have a glossy black look

i'm sure we all do it different but to keep it simple i guess, this is what i do-

If using mdf or any other type of porous wood, use multi coats.

It usually takes me 3 coats on mdf to get a solid color going on.

I sand with 100grit, paint, sand with 150grit, paint, sand with 300grit, paint, then sand with something very light.. 500grit or higher and that's it.

As far as what paint.. i can't even remember, i havent actually rolled on paint in so long.

there are many ways to do it... that's just the way i do it.

what i normally do is sand it down real good, and actually use a basecoat/clearcoat paint, it may seem excessive but it comes out the smoothest, and you can lay on a good thick coat of it, and it has a durable finish. i use a paint gun though, if you dont have access to one, you can also go to your local auto parts store and get a universal clear in a spray can that works good as well (i only know that cause i work at an auto parts store)

Depends if its in a trunk or not imo because if its in an SUV I would personally carpet it since it will be visible. In my trunk I just used like an enamel paint I think? Something that will keep the wood protected is the main concern

I use automotive primers and paint in a spray gun on my enclosures. Rattle cans can work but it seems like it takes way more work to get a nice finish. Also, if you can, try to do the painting in a location with a little bit of environmental control. As anyone can see in the build log for the van, heat and humidity will "blush" the paint and make it nearly impossible to properly finish.

ok, thanks, and what if i dont have a spray gun, will a roller do decent??

and would i need to primer it first?
