Need some bass help!

Recommended Posts

ok so right now iv got a 12" fi bl in a 2.5 cuft box tuned to 33hz. so my next move is to either get one more bl and wire my aq2200 to 1ohm or sell me bl and get a 15" btl. My question is would the btl be a significantly amount louder? is it a huge step up from the 12" bl or would i just be better off getting another bl. im going to be getting a 180a hp dc alt with big 3 done and a kinetik hc1400 under the hood. i will have the electrical for 2200 watts but what would be the smarter option mostly going for a lil louder, i love 1 sub setups and it would be easier to get 1 btl and a single box then another bl and buy a dual 12" box. Thanks in advance Bassheads :)

If you REALLY like single sub set-ups, then you already know the answer to that. IMO, I think, two subs with the same amount of power would sound louder then just one sub on the same amount of power. But thats just my guess. Remember, TWO heads are better than ONE :)

I say that because of cone area. But again, if you don't have sufficient space availible for those two BL's, then don't do it. It will sound better if you give the BTL a happy home rather then two BL's squeezed into a closet. Get what I'm saying?

haha yes that makes perfect sense, i guess what i was trying to say is is the btl a pretty big leap from the bl, i know its more cone area with 2 12" compared to 1 15, but those btls iv heard are pretty damn beastly haha, im just hoping if i do get the btl it wont be enough still but then again everyone says they get sh*t loud and what im mostly shooting for is gettin decently loud or louder then what i am right now and i dont wanna go through all the trouble of selling my bl and box and buying another box and btl and it being barely any louder lol.

I would just buy a matching 12" BL and run 2 if you're going for output. I think a single 15" BTL on double the power you're running now will be a good bit louder than your single 12" but a pair of them should be louder than the single BTL.

yea that also makes sense, im just trying to plan ahead so i dont have to keep switching out stuff and redoing, like they say if your gonna do it might as well do it right the first time and be done with it, just wish i could hear a btl 15" first so i could see if it would be enough for my likings. damn subwoofers get your brain cells thinkin haha so many options!

Have you thought about just reconing your BL to a 15"? That would give you a small increase in output and would be the cheapest route, but would not be as healthy a gain as adding another 12 or stepping up to a BTL.

i have thought about it but i would still need a new box and if i were to get a new box might as well put in a btl :) but yea i think imma just try out a btl iv heard nothing but great stuff about it, only thing im worried about is the difference in sound, if anyone has heard both the bl and btl could you give me your input as to what i should expect different as far as sound, how it switched from beat to beat and the tone of it id really appreciate any input from the experts ;)

I have an 18" BTL and it'll get loud without a doubt. You need to help us help you by telling us your space limitations. I'm assuming you have the space for 2 12" BLs simply based on the fact that you're considering a 15" BTL.

Short answer: 2 12" BLs vs. 1 15" BTL on the same power: I personally would go with the BLs.

Is your sub 1 ohm DVC? If so, you're going to have to get it re-coned to 2 ohm if you'll be running a second at 1 ohm.

If you haven't seen this before, be sure to utilize it when needed. Wiring Diagram Wizard

yes my sub is a dual 1 ohm, and iv looked it up if i have 2 dual 1 ohm subs then i could either wire it to 1 ohm or 4 ohms, and yes i do have a pretty big trunk in my civic its actually bigger then the trunk of my old maxima haha yea it surprised me too, but its its like i either wanna get louder or i wanna get louder with trying out a btl haha, i just dont know the differences in sound of the two. If only i could hear a 15" btl that would give me all the answers i need but not very many people around here know of anything good except for the kickers and alpines sold at the stereo shop lol.

Doh!

Switched my numbers. I meant to ask if his was 2 ohms, and if so he would have to get it reconed to 1 ohm. My mistake OP!

Haha its all good my guy i know if youve got an 18" btl you gotta know your wiring :), so how do you like the sound of the btl? have you ever heard a bl and if so what do you think the differences are if any in sound and just how it plays...low....high and peaky... real nasty and thunderous....haha so much to find out

Oh don't get that confused, I've still got waaaaaaaaaaay too much to learn. ;)

Sorry, but I've never heard a BL in person. The BTL sounds and performs amazing (lows = sex), but I've seen BLs take a pounding and they seem to do fine. Maybe somebody that's heard both in person can chime in and give you a better answer.

Good luck :drink40:

Haha thanks for the info burko and im sure your lovin the btl at 15 years old haha thats amazing. And lows are my business....I will work for lows!! Yes id like to heard from someone who has heard both which will make my dicision that much easier for me, i know 2 12 bls will be louder then a 15" btl but it would take much more work to accomplish and if i knew id be satisfied with i 15 btl then thas the route id go, but until i can hear one in person its all up to you guys, i know whichever dicision i make ill be happy :D

well iv got a honda civic but it does have a bigger trunk then my maxima, the only way id be able to do an 18 is sub up and port back or forward but still i dont think id have the cubes to satisfy it, that would be amazing to have an 18 but i just dont think there is enough room
