Subwoofer comparison

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm from Puerto Rico so my english is not that good, but I want to try to communicate with all of you. I know this questions is ask sooo many times. But I want to know your opinion on this. My car is a 1994 Corolla, the amp is a Soundtream Rubicon 400.1 mono, and the sub would be in a .75 birch ported box, about 2.89cuft including port area and tune to about 38hz and I listen to a lot of hip-hop, electronica, and rock(not at high volumes). The 15" subs I been looking are: Mmats P2.0, IA 187, Treo Tsx and Mtx TR75. All of them dvc 4ohms. I want the best ""SQL"" possible because I know that with just 400rms I'm not going to reach high SPL. I want decent sound, but as loud as possible. Thanks!

This box is less than 3 cubic feet total? For most 15" subwoofers, you're going to want at least 3-4 cubic feet and then add the port and subwoofer displacement. The port/sub will probably take up another cubic foot or so. Your total internal volume should be somewhere in the range of 4-5 cubic feet probably.

Yes 2.89 total. 4 to 5 is way to big. Not enough space in the trunk.

A 15" in sub in a smaller than recommended enclosure size is going to sound like shit! Look at going with a quality 12" in a ported enclosure.

Maybe try to get a new box using Aero Ports, and throw a bag of Poly Cotton in there... You want to give which ever sub you choose the most air to breath.

Go with a 12". A 15" in an improper enclosure will sound like caca compared to a 12" in a proper enclosure.

Thats funny because I contact Mmats support and they said that a 2.89 cuft is "ok", not great, for a P2.0 15".

But, OK means that it could sound pretty decent. A larger enclosure will sound much better, I know that. But do you think that a good 12" would sound lauder and overall better, than those subs that I mentioned in that particular box?

haha being that they say its ok means that it is terrible because they are trying to sell you something and if it really was ok then they would have told you its perfect but since its not ok they gave you the best answer they could which is ok just so you buy there stuff haha...goodluck on that 15

It would probably be ok with 2.89 after sub and port displacement. You will probably end up with around 2.1-2.2 cuft after factoring those in.

haha which is smaller then my box for my 12" bl :D....Go big or go home, yes cygnus it will work, but will it sound good? no use in getting a good 15" sub and then giving it a shit home, it will just feel and sound like pooooo

Yes, is a 400wrms cea. What about a Kicker L3? Or maybe a SSA Dcon?

What about a DD 500? I know the price here for a SSA Dcon is like $125. But did they ship to PR?? If yes, how much $$?

I had a soundstream xxx 15 in a 4.6 cubic foot box with port taking up around 2.4 cubes tuned at 34 hz... The SQ was amazing for it being in such little airspace and it got loud. Metered a 147 db@ 43 hz. But i built a box for a friend for a Quantum Audio 15" in a 2.5^ft sealed box (biggest he could go) and it sounded like sh*t! You may wanna go with a 12"

I'd go with the SSA Dcon. They have good sound quality pretty cheap and can handle some power. But you sure you can't get a better box?
