first install..need help with amp and other things :) 2x FI q 12&#34

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, glad to be able to post here

So this is going to be my first install and i have decided on the subs I want.. 2 FI Q 12" wich are rated at 1000 rms a piece but can go up to 1500 rms a piece with a addon wich I am getting. First of all Should I get the Dual 1 version or the Dual 2?

second of all : What amp is good for this install? Right now Im thinking of a saz-2500d or AQ 2200D...any other recomendations? Which one shall I choose? I want to send around 1200 - 1500 TRUE rms to each sub so the amp will need to be tested and rated at around 2500 TRUE RMS muahah

third : I need a high output alternator for my car: where do i buy this? Do i also need a second batter?

4th: How do i do the big 3? what is the big 3?

5: what kind of box? ported or sealed? I want to to sound crisp and clear yet powerfull bass

thanks guys

im sure ill have more questions later lol

First off we cant tell you D1 or D2 until you decide an amp. Both those amps are fine. There are a lot of companies that do HO alts just search around here and you'll see. A lot of people are happy with DC power. Can't tell you about the battery until you get the amp installed and monitor your voltage. The box depends on your goals. Cant tell you from the information given. There is a thread all about the big 3 in the how to section. Check that out. My advice is do some research on the forum before you undertake this install. Best of luck to you

well.. before anyone begins to help you.. u should confirm that you have these first-

AGM battery charger

DMM (digital Multimeter)

plenty of money (around $2k)

good understanding of ohms law

experience with dealing with electrical systems

Once you confirm this.. then i can help you.

IT seems you are at the very beginning stages of an install that you are showing you have no common experience or knowledge about...

Therefore, to prevent the alternator, battery(ies), sub(s), amp(s) to fail, or the car to catch fire or serious injury to occur... It's wise to make sure you have everything above.

Okay battery charger CHECK, DMM CHECK, MONEY CHECK, OHMS LAW- semi check, experience semi check...I did a lot of research today and figured this out

i will be going with the D1 subs, wire them in series, and run it to a mono d amp that is stable at 1 ohm. The amp would be running around 2200 watts to maybe 3000 watts (RMS). The subs can handle this with no problem? I added the colling option that adds 500 rms to the original 1000.

okay, can you help me now? :)

I also spotted a crescendo amp thats 3k rms..from the little reviews I read so far they are a company like sundown..do any of you guys have experience with this company? was the amp good at 1 ohms? did it overheat? any problems? my biggest problem now is finding a good solid amp at 1 ohms...

I have figured out the big 3, waiting on word from several H/O alternator companies to see if one fits my car, and batteries will come into play once i install. The other problem i have is the box

FI recomends 1.8-2.5 cuft @ 28-33Hz for a PORTED box, which I am going for from what I read so far, they say ported are better if done properly..but take up more space

Ported is not better overall. For output, yes ported is usually the way to go. From the info given it seems like the best way for you to go. What are your goals and what type of music do you listen to. I cant say for sure but I would think the Qs can handle that kind of power and depending on your goals that could be an ok choice, but generally for output a BL or BTL would be a better choice. The q's are sound quality woofers. The BTL can handle the type of power you are pushing without a problem. The two amps you mentioned are stable at 1 ohm if I'm not mistaken. The Crescendos seem to be good amps other than the popping problem that some have encountered.

Well my overall goal was to have a pair that would hit hard but at the same time have some sq as well. I did some reviews and found out that the BL series did not have that much good of sq and I just dont want to hear all bass I want some crispy clear notes as well to enjoy it also lol. Do you think the BL has some decent sq? I know the SPL is insane :)

Is the SQ from the Q to the BL that much of a difference? is it really noticeable?

im considering the bls now too lol

I think you would be happy with the BLs, unless you are wanting serious sound quality and were going to go with the high qts option on the Q and seal them up.

The SQ on the BL will be fine. If your even considering BL then it is most likely the choice for you. As Ohjay said the q is a serious SQ woofer. It has the ability to get loud but if SPL with some SQ is your goal the BL would be a better decision. Although for the kind of power you are looking at the BTL shouldn't be overlooked. I am not all too familiar with Sundown Z v2's but they could be a good choice or even Nightshades. Sundown makes excellent products. If I remember correctly the Z's are more musical, but research don't just take my word for this. As stated I'm not familiar enough to comfortably say if they would be right for you or not. I'm just reminding you of them.

thanks for the info lurker. i will take what you said into consideration. for the amp i have decided on the Cresendo 3kw with 3k+ rms at 1ohm. still deciding on the subs tho q or bl! not btl because lack of sq.

I will also be doing the big 3, h/o alt, and an extra battery or 2. looking all together at 2-2500 k...should be a banging system though.

If you are looking into crescendo the popping issue should be something you should research. Good luck with the build

What is your definition of SQ? I have an 18" BTL and have heard it against BLs and Qs all ported, and Besides having more output it sounded just as good as the Q and Bl.

well this is going to be my first install so Im not tooooo sure but i want a sub that will sound loud!! like shake my mirrors, do some flexing etc..but at the same time sound "musical"...not a slopppppyy bass that only hits hard and sounds out of tune from the original song and beats... I want one that will hit those notes and sound good while it beats hard!!
