Help with box dimensions and port for 2 12s

Recommended Posts

I am building a box for 2 SA-12's for the trunk of my altima. I want to have a square port between the 2 subs on the front of the box, looking somewhat like this:

O | O

sub port sub

Using 3/4" MDF and outside dimensions, my box's height can only have ~ a height of 16.5", a width of 33", and a depth of 16.5" (however, the depth can be altered a good bit if needed)

I need to know what dimensions to make the port and the dimensions of the box itself if anyone could help.

Thanks.

Your gonna need 21.5" in depth You could use a 15" tall x 4" wide port and it will have to be about 36" long to get a tuning of about 32Hz.

That's a gross volume of 5.47'3 and a net volume 3.56'3

This is not exact but would get you in the ballpark.

I used the recommended 1.75 per sub and .28 for displacement of subs.

Ok so i would have to make the port 90 toward each sub to finish off the 36" in length i would need correct?

Yes it will 90 at the rear of the enclosure and go towards each side. When it makes the 90 each run at the rear will be 2" which gives 4" as a total. Understand that?

Seems kinda heavy for 2-600 watt subs, but I guess you can gain down.

I had Dbr repair my 1200D and it has been great!!! They were also very easy to work with and the communication was excellent.

An extra 300 watts would be great to have for the headroom, but $150 would get you all wired up if you havn't gotten to that yet.

You have to make the call.

And ive heard sundown amps are a little underrated so i think id be ok with the headroom from the underrating of the 1200w.

I bought from db-r and so far the amp is great. I dont know if you noticed or not but that SAE was b-stock. I think that means it will have some cosmetic defects but perform fine. I dont know what kind of car you have but if your mounting it somewhere it wont be seen thats not a big deal. I bought a refurb that wasnt b stock and you cant tell the difference between that and brand new fyi. You should be fine with the 1200 though. You didnt mention what your electrical consists of. You would definately need some upgrades for the 1500 and less so for the 1200 but that will still draw a lot of power so it all depends on your vehicle

Oh and btw don't put to buy too much into the "underrated" thing. I haven't seen anyone measure so I could be wrong, but at any rate I'm fairly positive its not going to be putting out a whole lot more than 1200. The important thing is that it puts out 1200 watts. Don't expect it to be pushing 1300 or something like that. I'm not hating on sundown by any means. I have an SAX-1200 and love it. They're a great company. Im just saying dont expect a 1200w amp to put out 1400 watts

What gen is that? I have a third gen. Stock alt is 100 amps. At full tilt the 1200 can pull 140 amps I am told. You wont see power like that most likely but either way your going to want to do the big 3 and most likely upgrade your starter battery.

Is it the big three hard to do if ive never done it myself? ive heard of it and have an idea of it, but never fooled with it myself.
