Eclipse SW9122 ported enclosure

Recommended Posts

I just picked up a NIB sw9122 and all that was in the box was 1 page of the owners manual and the mounting hardware. So I need to know what works good for a ported enclosure? How many cubes, freq., and port area? It will be running off a Audio Art 100hc, so in the neighborhood of 1000W.

I am thinking somewhere 2-2.25^3 ported to 32hz but not sure on port area, seems this sub will move a lot of air.

If its the one I am thinking of I believe it was made by TC Sounds. I have owned one at one time and wasn't to impressed. Eclipse recommended small sealed and small ported with ported being recommended. If I recall correctly they were like this:

0.4 - 0.6 ft^3 sealed

1.0 - 1.25 ft^3 tuned to 32-35hz

My search found the same.

Woofer displacement - .19 ft^2

I have the 88120 dvc as well as (3) 88120 ti dvc.

I've tried them both ways and they love a ported box, IMO.

I'd go with ~1.75 c.f. net.

Pencil and paper gave me 1.55 c.f. as the optimum volume.

I built the first enclosure to that with a 32 hz. tuning. Absolutely loved it in the back of Fox body hatch.

I had "wind" in my car for the first time. It would blow out my zippo.

I believe the port dimensions were something like 1-1/2" x 12" x 36", not sure I built the box along time ago.

I don't know what the in car response was, but it modeled on BBP6 with only a 3 db rise at tuning.

I powered it with a JL 1000/1, never had any problems.

If you do a search, you should find a thread stating no more than 2-2.5 c.f. net.

Be careful with you're excursion, the polyether foam surround will crack/tear if you wang it too far. I don't believe the former will bottom out on this motor, no ticking noise.

The rubber surround on the 88120 dvc seems to be more forgiving.

The box.
