Sold old woofer, want a 15! What to get?

Recommended Posts

I just sold my SA-12, and i'm currently looking for a new sub, I have a couple ideas. I want a 12' or a 15', i've been looking at several 15's, and i have about $600 to spend on it, i was powering my SA-12 with a Hifonics BRZ2100.1D. I want my next sub to be able to take that with ease. I've been looking at an Fi: BTL N2, Xcon 15' or 12', IA Death Penalty 12' or 15', or maybe even a warden 12' or 15'. I'm really just looking for a sub that will hit harder than my SA-12, its in the trunk of a hemetically sealed bmw, so it has to be loud in order for the sound to carry to the cabin because 80% of the sound stays inside of the trunk :( point is, I'm willing and open to all suggestions. Thanks in advance for replies!

Jake.

I know how you feel.

My Pioneer 12" hits hard. But on the BMW, is like is half of what it used to be in my SUV.

Since my car audio plans are now on my BMW, I thought that such a nice car deserves nice, quality sound so thats why Im interested in XCONS.

Is your goal SQ or SPL?. Im pretty sure the XCON should not be on that list if SQ is what you looking for.

Update: If your goal is SQ, then look into XCONS or Fi Q (this is what I tried to say in first place lol).

Just my 2 cents

My goal is indeed spl, I enjoy loud clean music, but there is a fine line. Ultimately, I want a sub that can be really loud and hit hard at high volumes, but sound clean at lower volumes, I plan on going to comps and competing, but I also want a good daily driver... I haven't yet sat in a system that hurts my ears, even a 153.2 db didn't hurt, I want something that will be loud. But achieving over 150 in a trunk with a single sub without folding down seats is nearly impossible

I'm on my phone at work I can't see the sigs but I think I have told every one with a bmw to do port threw the back deck. I had it done it was ok for a single sub set up its really hard to get a bmw loud with out spending a lot of money and the box would probably take up all of your trunk space. Iv heard pretty much all of the subs you have mentioned there all great just pick the one you want and go with it.

I'd opt for two 12s on that budget ... but first you need to figure out what you are willing to do to get the sound from the sub from the back to the front ... if you are not willing to spend time and money in that it will be pointless to advice anyting

......you know anyone who has his HT subwoofer placed in their neigbours livingroom ? ..........

I don"t !

LMAO

Bro, is not that bad. My Pioneer can be heard on the cabin. I think his 80% lost comment was a bit overrated. I would say maybe 50% of bass is lost (I had my exact same sub, same box, same amp in an expedition, it was def louder there).

But I think by the time I put 2 12s, it should be louder than even my single 12 pioneer was on the expedition :dancing:

Well there is a ski hole that I removed the sheet metal, and I got a very noticeable increase by doing that, but still im willing to do more to get as high of numbers as possible.

Well I AM A tell you right now you can not get 2 of the 12s you want in the back of your bmw not to bash or any thing just from my experience you will pretty much have to do a single sub set up. I think a 15 prob be your best bet in this. I think if you put a 15 and locate your amps on the sides of the box you will get a better result. The 3 series trunk is very small.

i know a few people with 2 12" set ups in 3 series bmws...

obviously getting sound into the cabin is the hardest, and most important part to this. i would figure that out first, and then act based on what type of space and port/blow through you can get yourself.

You can put a dual 12 set up but the box is going to be to small for the subs he is looking at they all need a pretty large amount of space a single death row I'm my old bmw took up almost all the trunk space it was enough room for 2 amps and a second battery and a few school books and folders

But alan is right it is hard to get the sound in the car pretty much two options threw the ski hole or threw the back deck or it won't be very loud

So, i prefer a single sub setup, and I plan on not using my trunk for anything else, I wouldn't mind doing a port through the top deck, but im not sure how I would do that... im wanting a 15', just not sure how to do it, any advice for a port through the rear deck?

We normally cut the entire rear deck away and weld a crossed frame in place for optimal results...

you could use a design that uses the skihole efficently ...

My old setup was sub up, port back, and it seemed to be pretty loud and the port was directed towards the ski hole, do you think I could get a better result from replacing the rear deck?

I think im going to save and get 2 IA death penalty 12's, and make a box that is a somewhat of a blowthrough through the ski hole... hefty price, but im sure it will be worth it

Well deff measure out your trunk and ask one of the box designing members if it will fit I'm just saying be for you go spend the cash.

That is very true, do you know anyone off the top of your head? Or should I create a post in the enclosure thread?
