Big 3 question...

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, Just got my 2 sa-12s installed with my saz 1000d. My light dimming is very minimal at night so i figured i would do the big three before i do anything else...

I currently have 4ga wire for my amp ground and amp +.

Would it be okay to leave it like that?

If its okay to leave it like that, can i do the big 3 in 4ga? or just do it in 0ga.

I will never put a larger amp in this car if that helps with anything. saz1000d will be the largest amp it will ever see.

anything larger than stock will help. 1/0 is optimal, but if all you have is 4, that should help, just not as much as 1/0 gauge.

Well im going to be ordering it so it doesnt matter which it is just price wise.

Wasnt sure if it would be a waste running the 1/0 when i already have the 4ga in place. ( i dont want to re-run the 4ga ) Wasnt fun going through the firewall.

If you have to purchase wire for the Big 3 you won't spend that much more for the 1/0 in comparison since it should not require that much wire.

Okay great. What do you think a safe bet is with the amount that i need?

Not sure if it helps but its going in a 2007 altima sedan.

get some string and measure up the runs you will need to make, add it all up and add an extra foot or 2.

for your application it shouldnt be a problem, people say its garbage but its just fine unless your doing a very high powered install. I think CCA will be just fine for you. If you have budget for the other then why not?

Well to be honest that will probably decide whether or not i replace the 4ga with the 1/0.

Price of the cca is pretty low.

Just go to weldingsupply.com and get the cheapest 1/0 they have. Its pure copper. And the cheapest quality wire. That's what I used and it worked very well. Post pics after you do it. :) also, wherever u ground at... be sure to sand the paint off so its a metal to metal contact.

Your wire for the big 3 doesn't need to be the same as the wire you have going to your amp. I would get the 3 dollar 1/0 from welding supply. Like Sefugi said, the price difference isn't going to be all that much different with the length that you're going to be buying.

OR if you want some on the cheaps then you could get some of this wire FS. Larger than 4 gauge ;)

There is no need for the "big 3" to be installed with wire of larger diameter than the power wire that is connected to the amplifier.

Ya, its fine to leave your 4ga that you currently have ran. Also, it would be fine to run 4ga to your big three aswell. But since your going to be doing it anyway I would personally do it in 0ga but if your not really running anything more than your saz1000d, then 4ga would be fine.

:morepower1: though....think about it. lol :fing34:

Ok, so heres what i am thinking....

Option A : Doing just the big 3 in the 0/1 from weldingsupply

Option B : Running new power and ground for amp in the 0/1 cca from knukonceptz along with the big 3 in 0/1 cca.

Either option sounds good to me!! Maybe option A to start with and see were you are at. That would be the most cost effective at this point. :drink40:

I do not understand what the infatuation is with 1/0 wire. There is absolutley no benefit to your current electrical demand to use 1/0 wire. Short runs that are used throughout the Big 3 do not require 1/0 in this situation.

Good luck.

Edit: thought you had a picture posted

My posts to this thread are not due to infatuation, just the cost difference between 4ga and 1/0 is not that different. I would rather have the ground work layed for any upgrades in the future. Yes, I know the op has stated that he will never upgrade his amp but were have I heard that before. Deff. not trying to start a beaf with anyone just wanted to make sure I am coming across clearly.

It's all good :eek5wavey:

I want the op to understand his situation to make his own informed decisions :)
