HT sub/amp combo for 1k minus labor

Recommended Posts

Hello,

After hearing a few of my recent builds a friend of mine wants me to build him a subsystem with a price right around 1k (not including labor) so here are a few combos I thought of.

Amp Adire ada 1200 (1200wrms at 4ohm)

Tapco J2500 (2500wrms at 4ohm)

Subs

The new 15" RLS (one)

a pair of RLP 15's or 12

A single SSA adire made 18

8 RE 8's on sale!

I don't have much more than 10 cubic feet to work with. He listens to rock mostly. large room, gothic rocker looking house. I was thinking a pair of rlp 12s in a wicked one with this african mask mounted in the front with red lit eyes would be sweet. He has lots of skeletons and gargoyles in his house.

go ahead and get creative I'm thinking something with lighting and dark looking,

later,

b

I have a VMPS Original sub with all the options. You may look into building him a Large Sub. You can buy the Plans and woofers, the Kit unassembled or fully assembled. These are un-powered, so you need to buy an amp. I use a 500 watt Rotel amp Bridged to run mine. It rocks as one of the best SQ subs I have ever heard. See them at www.vmpsaudio.com

Here is mine...

I actually was pondering a new home theatre system for my new home, and I hope to buy an RL-s 15 one day, and according to the site 10.0 cubes is a great size for the enclosure (sealed)

Heh....well, I actually did a comparison of the 18" SSA and the 15" Rl-s in a PM to hayden without even realizing he was actually considering both :D I was basing it solely off of recommended enclosure size.

But, here's how they matched up in my eyes:

"(regarding the SSA): For a Q of .7 it would require a 10cuft enclosure. Large? You bet ya. But sealed enclosures weren't my intention with this woofer. You could go smaller on the enclosure size...but that'll raise the Qtc.

However, to put that into perspective......the 15" Rl-s also has a recommended enclosure size of 10cuft. The "TeamSSA" woofer has nearly identical linear displacement as the 15" Rl-s, but in that 10cuft enclosure the SSA would have a much lower Qtc. It's also almost 12db more efficient, and has atleast half the inductance of the Rl-s. Not to mention it's almost half the price aswell.

This ofcourse all assuming the prototype matches up to the T/S parameters I was given."
