First build log

Recommended Posts

So I had a little build in a s-10 blazer and sold the truck. My new build is my 1991 Mustang convertible not a lot of room in here but once i got rid of the back seats room was not as much a problem. Sorry if some pics are out of focus the camera kind of sucks. got the run of 0 gauge under the driver seat and once the aq 4x90 gets here i can make my bracket to set the aq's on and build a box for my box where the aq is sitting right now.

Looking at the wiring on your battery you may want to check out this thread, it's a good read and very usefull info. Keep it coming.

Lots of things that need fixing/changing.

But should be nice in the end.

yeah i suppose i didn't really cover that in the original post but as money allows I will be doing the big three all 0 gauge and a bigger alt with possibly a second batt or just a good size xs power up front b/c this set-up is about as far as i am going in this car due to room issues which is why i just bought a 1987 chevy caprice which has lots of trunk room. but just wondering how big alt and batt i would need i'm running the aq1200d and soon to be aq4x90?

and here i thought i would be the only one ;p but a hatch would be nicer than the vert its such a pain but getting equipment and box movement is a hella easy with the top down. it'll be cleaner within the next couple of weeks im just trying to figure out all my measurements and materials to make a cradle for the box and amp rack.

one big battery in back should be enough for that AQ.

You got a mess Bro. Keep posting pics of your progress.

yeah i do but projects are fun im running into problems setting my gains though and im pretty sure i have everything correct but if so im dissapointed because i have very little bass. i used two test tones (50 hz at 0 db and a 1khz at 0 db) to find the lower to start setting my gains and found out that at 45 my h/u clips so i set the volume to 44 and set my high gain until it clipped then changed cd to the 50hz track for my sub and dialed it in until it clipped then backed off until it stopped. After all that I play a song which once would destroy my S-10 on a crappy volfenhag amp with a pair of alpine type-r's attached to it. But in this car it's barely noticible I understand that I'll never clip but at the cost of heart stopping bass I feel sad. Is there something in there that I may have overlooked. I played the track at the full 44 and just not much there. I heard that tuning the amps should be done with a -10 db test tone is this true?

It is going to be very difficult for you to achieve a similiar low end output in this car as you had in your Blazer. You have basically zero cabin gain. If you using a different subwoofer in a small enclosure in the trunk your output maybe much better. You could also look into removing the rear seat for an enclosure. I feel that removing the passenger seat is odd, put it back :)

-3db test tones work well if you arent boosting the crap out of your signal.

I plan on putting the box where the amps are (where the back seat once was) but will it make much difference in performance because after setting these gains I really feel like I have zero bass where I once had a ton. Should I (dare I say) use my pair of Alpine type-r's in a sealed box or maybe a smaller ported box. I really would like some advice on this topic because I don't want to continue with a build that wont perform the way I imagined. Thanks guys.
