I am breaking in my N2 BTL 18, on about 1700-2000 watts maybe a bit less for about a month or less, Usually it takes 15 hours to break it in. MY gains on the amp are turned down, after a month im going to turn the gains up, Im not going to play 3K into it daily, although it can handle that.

when i got my BTL, i put it in, and beat on it right away, no harm done. I noticed within a few weeks it got deeper and a little lower sounding. I assume that was when it was fully broken in. Kinda irritates me for some reason when i see people do these crazy break in rituals with their subs. lol.

You don't need to break the driver in, it's not a car. However, the more you play it the suspension may loosen a little and play a little louder.

Drive it like you stole it is a great saying you should think of in relation to breaking a sub in. The suspension will loosen up some over time and youll gain alittle. Only way to kill a sub is simply to much power, clipping, and over excursion. Thats my oppinion

"breaking in" is the spiders and surround getting looser, which will increase the low end output a little. You can put it's RMS to it right out of the box (in the right enclosure), no need to give it 1/2 rms, then 3/4 then full or whatever the hell it is people do.

The idea that a subwoofer will "break in" is not a myth. The suspension will loosen, which will change the parameters. Since the change in parameters is proportional, generally it won't significantly affect the response.

The idea that you need to dedicate a specific "break in period" before using a driver is a myth. The driver will naturally break in over time with regular use. The idea that you need to use less power on a driver until it "breaks in" is also a myth. The only way to "break in" a driver is to actually exercise the suspension. Using low power levels would be counterproductive if your goal was to break in the driver.

There's no reason to play low power for a "break in period." Put the sub in your car and let it wang.
