I am looking at buying two Older 3 magnet BTLs and the guy Im going to buy them from doesnt know if they have the SPL option or the daily option. Ii know that i want the daily option because thats what Im going to use them for so i was wondering if there is an easy way to tell if they have the spl option?

thanks for the help but i really cant get a picture cause the guy lives far away from me so its not really convenient to go and get a picture and i cant get a picture from him.

I've seen them and i can describe them to you if it helps.

Or can you tell me what to look for.

If it helps I've listened to both of them free air and they sound normal.

Thanks

Most never had an SPL option if they had cooling.

The cooling option would mean that there are holes cut into the side so that you can see the coil correct?

I currently have a BL and it has the cooling option but the holes on the BTLs are smaller than the cooling holes on the bl. (a little smaller than a dime in size)

what does this mean?

They look like this

Thanks for your help guys

No..

It is axial machine grooves on the inside of the top plate and pole of the motor..

You can not see any of it with the sub together..

ok i get what u mean, i didnt think you could see it without seeing the inside of the motor structure but theres no way i can see the inside of the motor, just what the picture i posted shows, thats not them but they look identical to those if that helps with what you wanted to see when you said post a picture before.

thanks

Nope..I can't tell anything from that.

Most full cooling motors are not SPL gapped anyhow. If you are buying them used from a guy..odds are you are going to have no issues because he has probably been playing music on them.

Ok I have 1 more question, what would happen if they did have the spl option and I played music on them? would using less watts make a difference?

Nope coil would rub out..

Honestly man if it is a full cooling motor it probably does not have a SPL option.

How about your friend sends you a picture and you post it here...?

Only way you can tell with the soft parts and motor still on it is by looking in the holes in the basket..

You should see grooves in the top of the top plate.

first thanks for all the help. So if i understand correctly if i look through the vent holes in the basket then there should be grooves cut into the motor, im looking on my bl that has the cooling option. what i see is like vertical channels cut into the motor where it surrounds the coil. is this correct?

All of them have vent hole sin the baskets, the grooves you saw are the six axial cooling vents in the motor, you are correct.

there's one more thing i want to ask sorry to ask so many questions but i want to be sure before i buy them. if they don't have the cooling option and have the SPL option will it be a noticeable difference between the regular gap and the SPL gap? A better way to ask is what is the difference in gap size between the daily and SPL option?

Thanks

Does that answer your question? The gap is tight causing it to rub when music is played.

no i understand the difference and that it would rub the coil, but would it be noticeable difference to the eye if you were looking at it through the holes in the basket? (to see if it had the SPL option or not)

Since you don't know what you're looking for, no.

Cause the 18 basket is a little different than the rest.

But to answer your last question, I don't think you can tell the gaps if you don't know exactly the difference.

Did you look to see if it had cooling?

And why doesn't the owner of the subs know anything about them?

But if your having this much doubt, maybe you shouldn't buy them of the chance their not exactly the right ones.
