Thinking about running these mids and need a tweeter suggestion and op

Recommended Posts

Looking at these mids http://www.diycable.com/main/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=538 . Anyone here using these or know anything about them? Also im looking for a tweeter to run with them. My set up is a 4ch amp running active with a pioneer880. the mids are in the door ,sound deadened fully, tweeters mounted above and forward of mids. subs are IA Li's. listen to mostly rap,r&B,and classic rock.

Haven't heard those and there is no freq response plots to look at on the site. Guaranteed they will be good for midbass, midrange however without playing with them would be hard to determine. Considering, if I had to blindly recommend I'd rather use a full ranger up top with them. Of course that will limit your overall output, but allow you to still have killer midbass. Those aren't exactly efficient though either so with just a four channel output may not be something you'll get anyways, unless your amp is a beast.

With your goals if you truly want a 2 way, you are probably better off with something that is more geared towards the vocal range than the midbass range. Your subs should take care of the lower octaves and in rap there isn't much between the lower octaves and the vocals so then I'd focus there.

M5 do you have any full range recommendations 2-3" ? Or can you point me to some 6.5-7" mids and tweeters ,$250 is the budget. Also when running those full rangers do they need to be on or off axis ?

Actually if you click the pictures to the right of the "large" picture there is both an FR and impedance graph.

Additionally, Zaph has tested these:

Zaph FR

Zaph Distortion

They do have a cone breakup node up in the 4khz range and looks like some diffraction from the surround around 2khz in Zaph's measurment which isn't extremely significant in level, so it's pretty well behaved up until the breakup node. HD is pretty good up until the breakup node as well. I don't think it'd be accurate to say they are geared more towards midbass than midrange. Kevin designed them for 2-ways to be crossed in the 2-2.5khz region. Kevin's not a charlatan, he's generally pretty up front and realistic about performance, and his products generally perform as advertised. Zaph's independent measurements show they'd do well in a 2-way as well, given you cross low enough to stay under that breakup node. I would stay within the recommended 2.5khz or lower xover point.

I have 6 of them in my closet right now, with HT duties in mind, meant to give them a listen before now but haven't had time to mock anything up. The few subjective comments I've seen on their performance give them pretty good marks as well.

I would recommend you give the Anarchy's a try ;)

As for full range, if you run without a tweeter they would have to be on-axis. And if high output exteneded listening is your goal, probably not the best option.

Well if they will play into the 2-2.5khz ,I will still try a standard 2way. Just need tweeter that will cross little low,any recommendations? I looked at some scanspeeks, and vida radiation ring style .

Wanted to buy a pair to dick around with, but don't have anything to put them in right now. Glad you cleared that up.

Heard anything you like? Wouldn't hurt to peruse Zaph's test and look for off axis response. If you do the rings, the 19's are way better off axis than the 25's, but I really like the 25's.

Zaph liked the SB Acoustics ring radiators...I'd give them a shot if I were in the market for a low-crossable tweeter.
