How Should i Set my Amp for A BL 15?

i need some help on how to set my amp to my new FI BL 15... its 1500 rms amp... i know to turn my bass boost all the way down, and to set my subsonic filter 2 or 3 seeting below my box tuning. but. im still pretty much oblivious to the settings for my new sub... can somone help me out with some opinions? would be very helpful.

Some will say to use a DMM or an O-scope. But you can use your ear to get started.

Start with some music you know not a Bass Mechanic CD lol. Turn your "gain" to minimum and as you turn up the volume on your HU, turn the gain on the amplifier up until it sounds like the subwoofer is starting to stress (distort) and then turn the "gain" back about a quarter turn until you hear no stress coming from the sub woofer.

The Gain on the amplfier is not a volume knob.

the gain is now somthing i dont know much about... just that it can make for break the system.. cliping, burning up the amp or the sub. need more info on that.

I dont use any equipment to set mine as of right now, by ear is what i do, as 98gmc said, is not a volume control. You dont need it cranked all the way up and probably shouldnt have it that high. start low and work your way up, if you for a second think its too high it probably is. lower it slightly till it sounds like your not hurting the sub. use your best judgement. Its hard to explain to someone how to set their gains by ear. if you have or have access to an o-scope then that would probably be the best way to do it.

If i get my hands on a O-scope how do i set the gains? i know that i can take out my speaker wire... but were do i hook it up to?

do you even know how to operate a O Scope...?( is it a digital or analog O scope) digital are sorta more simple which an analog one gotta mess with a few settings.. hook the wires coming from your amp into the O scope... actually i would test my head unit first to see if it was clipping then work your way back to your amps.. cause if your head unit is clipping its gonna make everything behind it clip... then make sure the wave on the scope isnt squared off at the top (needs to be nice and curved with no squared off line on the top or bottom..
