Tacoma Cut Through

Recommended Posts

So i have finally built up the courage to cut the big hole in my cab that i have been wanting to do for about 4 years now...

I went to my local DC dealer (that rusty helped me locate) i then ordered some level 3s for a decent deal, then came in a couple days later to pay to find out that rusty HAD just ran out of level 3's and upgraded me FREE OF COST to the level 4s. so i pretty much got some level 4's for half price.

so to anyone wondering about DC audio, there customer service is absolutely superb, i cant say enough how freakin excited i am about this deal. Stereo Solutions and Rusty from DC audio, i thank you guys soooooo much, i cant emphasize enough how happy i am.

if rusty only deals with guys like the ones at my local shop then i would recommend them to anyone!!! and i havent even heard the subs yet!!!! anyways enough with the rant.

Here is my tacoma, 96. 2wd beater. got a 1/4 million miles on the ol girl now. have had the truck since i was seventeen, turning 23 next month. got it with less then 100k miles on it.

So what ill be running is:

Pioneer DEH 3200UB

Big Three/Gel Batt up front (900cca)

Small Batt near amp.

Hifonics Brutus BXI2008D

Two DC Labs level 4 12s. D1 coils wired to 1 ohm at amp.

Box is 3.45 Cubes after all displacements tuned to 33hz

Subs should be here next week sometime... got a bunch of work done today on the bed. took the old beat up piece put and made a 12 gauge plate to mount the box flush to. then the bot will go from the steel plate to the cab. should make it easier to seal all up. as im going to leave the box in the elements! ya no bed cover yet. just gonna resin the box then bondo/primer/paint to match my truck. gonna have it bolted down and and bolted against the bed wall. it will be pretty touch to steal. lol.

and the lanky ass guy in the blue shirt. thats me. my buddy took a lot of pics

Looks good so far, you could try bedlining the box. Not sure what would be more weather-proof, bedliner or wax.

Way to man up and start cutting. Off to a good start and looks like you have a good selection of tools to do the job properly.

yeah i was thinking about bedliner also. i might even bedliner THEN paint over the bedliner... well see. either way the bitch is gonna get heavy coats of "stuff" so it dont leak or soak up water.

thanks man. my dad and i have a machine shop. i used to work on helicopters, got experience doing a lot of different mechanical things at a young age. have done vacuuming composits (sucking the air bubble out of fiberglass work basically) lots of metal riveting and "like" metals studying, metal tolerances. Have done a lot of engine machining, used to build engines with my dad. (my dads occupation) have built a few hotrods and worked on my 71 nova and have been helping with my dads 8 second 68 camaro since i was a toddler. needless to say i have a pretty fair mechanical background...

we traded a motor for our welder. my dad likes to trade... got like a 6000 dollar digital mig welder for 800 bucks worth of engine parts and some labor. cant beat that.

and our plasma cutter isnt that great i think it only does like 1/8 thick, maybe 1/4 if its clean metal...

and hey whatever works, i have a lot of harbor freight tools. cool thing is they usually go bad before there thirty day return policy so its no problem getting it replaced... haha

lol yeah my girlfriend stayed at her house tonight so i said why not... and thanks i love my dog soo much, more than the girlfriend.... (of like five years) anyways i just swept after each cut i made, kinda blew everything off. i work pretty clean, i like to clean up as i work. kinda a habit i had to get into working on aircraft, cant leave tools laying on top of engine deck then have it fly off. hahaha. i dont have many wood working tools obviously, not table saw, no router. skill saw, which i started using a fence but then got lazy and started free handing... =/ they cam out pretty damn good though so im happy. hopefully it holds up...

Dude invest in a decent router with a plunge cut base and get a circle jig. I put off buying a router for 15 years for some dumb reason and the first time I used one with a circle jig I could have kicked myself for not getting one earlier. You should be able to get a decent router, circle jig, and some bits for rounding over edges for $200 or less. I've always invested in metal working tools and finally picked a few decent wood working tools up and it made a huge difference in the quality of my work.

Looking good by the way. I did laugh a little at the cutting in the house but hey what ever it takes to get the job done. :fing34:

yeah... i def need a router it will be my next tool purchase for sure.

and i made a mistake. i dont know how im gonna cut my speaker holes now.. i glued one baffle in already and isnt coming off... might have to do the bottom part by hand but its not gonna look good. it will be covered by the double baffle but still, kinda pissed...
