Opinions for SQ setup

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone I have 2004 Ford F-150 STX regular cab and I am downgrading from my 2 12'' Memphis C3's to more of a sound quality setup. I am thinking of going with one Sundown SA-8. I really dont know much about these woofers but I have heard great things. What kind of box would be best for a SQ setup with that sub?

Here are a few pics of my old set up in my truck so you know what I have to work with.

I think I am gonna take the middle jumpseat out, cut into the padding of the seat and build a box that the seat can fit over. It will be kind of like a stealth box i guess, with the sub downfiring. Only problem will be finding a way to mount it to the factory holes in the floor.

Are you asking for the best front stage? Or the best way to setup your woofer?

If your looking fore "true SQ", concentrate on your front stage, then build the sub stage to fill in where needed ...

Now that I think about it, I guess I could use help on both. I have replaced all the door speakers with Rockford Fosgate Power 6x8's. I sold my pioneer deck and am running them on the stock head unit right now. New deck coming soon, and maybe a set of components in the front.

You should be more concerned about your front stage setup than the brand/size subwoofer at this point.

I don't think you understand what SQ is. What are your goals for this system?

Well what is your definition of sound quality?

SQ is the best possible reproduction of the original music. You want it to sound like you're listening to the band/group live right in front of you on a stage.

For true sq, the subwoofer is not nearly as important as the front stage. Do you have any fiberglassing skills?

A subwoofer plays from 15 to about 60 hz., where your front stage is responsible for ~60 Hz. to 20,000. Which do you think is more important?

As popular as that vehicle is, it would be easy to go around to some junk yards and find matching door panels, buy them and tear up the junk yard ones doing the fiberglass work on them. Then if you get rid of the truck you have the originals in perfect condition to put back on and if you mess up, who cares, just cut it off and try again.
