holy crap, they look better than I had imagined, damn and you worked the map pocket and foot flood light back into the pod too, that is awesome, flat out amazing work,

as for power, an Orion 8004 will power both sets, as to how it will power them I have not decided, I could go active so I can back the tweets down a little or just run each individual component off each of the 4 channels,

once again crazy good work!!!!

Those look very nice indeed.  Should be an awesome front stage.  Now imagine if it was DIY ...  :bigok:  :D

Going to re-cover the entire door or just the new pods?

It's DIM cause I'm Doing It Myself :D With some help from Nick, and Aaron, and Dave ( might not realize it yet :P ). dave get's the joy of helping me vinyl these monsters. I'm gonna smooth out any sharp curves with filler so it shouldn't be that bad. Gonna have to decide if we recover the whole panel or the pods. I built the pods on the existing removable panel at the bottom. So it still attaches with screws just like before ( added a couple bolts to compensate for added weight) , and all the design elements ( Nick, and Aaron know the corners I speak of ;) ) were copied . So basically I have buit this pod to follow the factory curves of the panel so that we wouldn't have to modify the rest of the entire door. I think once I get the other panel built ( build pics coming in a day or two ) and we get them vinyled, they are gonna look pretty d@mn sexy :)

frosty,

did you get your speakers yet? if so, how do you like the sound?

American Express stopped my order because the apartment address I gave them didn't match my billing address...so WoofersEtc was sitting on my order for a month without letting me know about it. I called them today, got it straightened out...so the earliest I'd have the comps is in two weeks or so when I drive back to NC. Bastages.

Damn, how did I miss this thread? Sweet looking so far. Giving me ideas as I'm building new panels from scratch.

Thanks for the compliments guys.

Vladd: He should have, they only stand out 5 1/2 " at the highest point. And that is at the front at the dash. With 200w a door, leg room will be less of a concern than hearing loss :)

Yep, how about some construction pics :)

First thing I made was a backing plate to seal up the pods. Here it is trimmed up and in place

100_0297.jpg

then we started door with the door panels all taped up, and cuts marked

100_0285.jpg

100_0284.jpg

I would normally use an air powered body saw for cutting. But my stupid compressor is on the fritz. So here's my weapon of choice for this project.

100_0294.jpg

And here is after all the cuts were made. Aaron turn your head :D

100_0300.jpg

Notice the wood divider I had to make. There was a factory speaker grill in the way that had to go. So out it went, and the brace was put in place to seperate the crossovers.

100_0301.jpg

100_0301.jpg

Now on to mounting rings where we want them. This is what I used to mount the rings. Glue gun, and gigantic high temp glue sticks

100_0302.jpg

That's some big d@mn glue sticks :D Sorry for the chitty pic

100_0305.jpg

Now let's position the back plate and door panel

100_0306.jpg

Notice the 1/4" inch gap between the back plate and the door panel. Did we screw up ? Nope, gotta leave room for fleece and vinyl

100_0310.jpg

Here we have the rings glued into position except for the tweets, had to build in two stages.

100_0313.jpg

100_0312.jpg

THen we stretch fleece over everything and smooth out any wrinkles before we put any resin on.

100_0324.jpg

100_0325.jpg

100_0326.jpg

100_0328.jpg

100_0330.jpg

I don't know if you can tell what is printed on the fleece, but Nothing says Mercedes quite like John Deere :D

100_0320.jpg

I put the first coat of resin on the fleece, and that's where I'm at, at this point. Resin takes quite a while to cure in this crappy weather we're having in hillbillyville. SHould hopefully have more pictures tomorrow :)
