Help with Amp....JL and weird impedances

Recommended Posts

Ok guys I recently upgraded cars and I am already desperate for some bass

I am restricted by space since its a convertible but I found a solution that keeps me and the gf happy

Space was a huge issue so I have decided on the most bass i could get out of flat sub....nothing like my btls

I will be running a single JL 13TW5 but the problem is they have a single 3ohm coil......which is really frustrating

that means i cant bridge a two channel and a monoblock will not be making optimum power

so i want to feed this thing 500 to 600 watts but am having trouble finding an amp that will do it, where i dont feel that

I know the jl 500/1 v2 will do it but 400 dollars for a 500 dollar seems rediculous but i will fork out the cash if thats the best option

help me out guys, i just need some bass back

Sell the JL, and get a better cheaper woofer with normal coils.

well i am restricted by space so it needs to be a flat sub and the jl has the most output of the subs i have seen so far and only needing .8 cubes itll still give me decent bass

if i had space i would go with a full size sub

3 ohm single voice coil should not be to much of a problem with most monoblocks.

Check out this woofer. Very good quality and lots of output.

Stay with the JL for sure. That is a really good speaker and it has the JL Audio name on it so you know it's a good design and good product. (Disregard what people will try to say about JL Audio here or anywhere)

As stated before, any 1 ohm stable or 2 ohm stable monoblock will work. You won't get full power output unless you get an amp that does the same power between 2 and 4 ohms.

Your amp is going to be expensive, either regulated like the JL or way oversized since you are at 3 ohms. Either way in the long run it won't matter though as it will be worth more when you get rid of it.
