any disadvantages to amp being up front?

im doin a classic car, and was thinking of mounting the amp in the front of the car.. under the dash hangin upside down (ofcourse on a well attached base)

not trying to save money on wiriing or anything, just wouldnt mind having it up front, and i have hydraulics in the trunk so in case there is ever an oil leak i wont have to worry about it..

also, would it get too hot under a seat?

any disadvantage to running longer speaker wire? i wouldnt think so.. and what gauge speaker wire is best for say a 12 ft run?

sundown 1000 is the amp btw....

Longer the run of any wire the less power you can get out of it!!

There can be many advantages to having amplifiers mounted in the front capbin area. Make sure the an amplifer has good airflow to prevent overheating.

plenty of airflow ... if i go under the seat there would be less.. but i think still enough...

but what gauge would i use..

im not set on it yet, but might be the best idea for my situation.. luckily those amps are pretty small

I'd just use 0/1 gauge for power and grounds. 12gauge for speaker wire.

You will be more than fine with 4ga for power and ground. They will infact be shorter in length than if they were in the trunk. As said above, just make sure there is sufficient air flow around the amp.

I've run plenty of amps under my seats (front and rear) and have never had a problem.

And the amount it reduces is inconsequential when wired appropriately.

OP, no disadvantage just plan correctly. Should make sure the Sundowns are okay upside down though. Most amps these days are...

May be even better up there, closer to the battery... That is where the real power loss comes into play...

Idealy, the amp would just be sitting on top of the battery, the low voltage/high current portion (DC power) needs to be as short as possible...

Like others said, watch for airflow, etc....

When you are done, let it rip for 15 minutes or so. If you can put your hand on the heatsink and it isn't super hot, you should be OK..
