Need more Bass!

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have a 1999 blazer with a single 12 Fi Q powered by a cadence zrs-7000d which is running at about 1300 rms at 1 ohm. The Fi Q is in a 2.2cuft L-Ported box tuned to about 32 hz. I really like this sub woofer but i am looking for more output. I have some questions now. First, i am looking to add another Fi Q 12 and making the box to about 5^3, i would be buying another zrs-7000d and bridging them together to get 2600rms at 2 ohms. Would there be any better subs that would give me noticeably more output out of a 5^3 box with about 2600rms? Second, would a new 250 amp alt and a optima yellow top under the hood be enough to support the electrical for the 2600watts? Third, i am going primarily for output, the bigest box i can fit is right about 5^3, i would get more output from two 12's at 1300rms a piece then one 15 at 2600rms right? Thank you for your help!

How much port would that 5^3 box have? You want sheer output without caring about how it sounds?

I am sorta newer to car audio but i could build the box to whatever is necessary. And yes i do care about sound quality, i want it to still sound decent on music, but i am willing to sacrifice SQ for SPl

I'd go for 5^3 with 100^2 port area tuned to 35Hz. Should get down REAL good. Same box I have in my GF's car doing 146's at 38Hz legal.

Sounds like you need some bls or btls.

Ok, thank you. So what do you think about the electrical? would that be enough to support it?

i agree, the Fi Q isnt the woofer for you, look into BL's or BTL's like stefan said.Electrical If i were you i would start with the big 3 and a new front and rear battery, if voltage doesnt seem under control get the alt too i guess.

Would the Yellow Top be a second battery for the rear?

The thing is i really dont have room to fit a second battery in the back, would upgrading the alternator be just as efficient as putting in another battery? Also, how much more output would i get with the BL's over a Q?

cant speak on the BL's, dont own one, but i have a 15" Q and an 18" BTL. and the difference in output is day and night.

Between the 250amp h/o alt, whatever starting battery, and a large xspower or kinetik, or even some deka 9a31s you should be good.

Not sure about using an optima battery, I've read they don't like being charged at 14.9v+, that they don't last very long.

To give you an idea, I ran a saz1500d at 1ohm with a 230amp alt and no extra batteries, full tilt voltage wouldn't drop below ~13.8

It depends on your car.

I had a 1500 w Sundown amp on stock electrical, with big grounds everywhere( batts, amps, engine block,...) and no problem at all.

Now I have a secondary Kinetic 1200 battery in the back, and my voltage went up a bit. But with engine off, the voltage is a lot more higher than before, and won't go down easily with music on) !

My car has a diesel engine, and must have a big stock alt.

You need to try !

I had a 15" (SSA Icon and then Xcon) sub taking up all the room in my trunk. Now I run a 12" BTL, so the box is smaller, and I could fit the Kinetic battery easily. I have much more bass now !

:dancing:

Sell the Q, and get a Fi btl or a SSA Xcon or Zcon(when it's released). You should love any of them.

I tried aeroports, and yes, it can make you save room for a 15" sub. Not really for a 12" , the box is too small !

This isn't necessarily true, since the motor doesn't run with electricity just needs it to start and power some fuel systems.

Replace it with a large alternator, and put a large battery under the hood where your stock one goes and you should be all set. :)

big 3, big alt and a big battery should give you the big bass you crave. do it do it

Im guessing the BTL n2 would be more suitable for you... since youre new to car audio. Putting 2600 watts on a BL is do-able, but very risky. 2 12" Bls would also be good.

x2 to what everyone is saying, bigger alternator, big 3, and a battery or 2 in the back.

So your saying 1300 watts a piece for a bl is to much?

No I was saying putting 2600 on a SINGLE BL would be very risky, 1300 on a BL is perfect
