I'll see how it is with a new alt and gain readjusted.

I'm sure the zcons on the same amp would be louder, but not sure if it would be enough. And I don't have anymore room for a bigger amp :roflmao:

My overhead light makes a rattling noise now... Some of the gasket for my windshield has ripped out...

hmm

Yeah me too. And I believe the volvo is built much more rigid then most american and japanese cars. The roof already is pretty stiff, hitting it with a fist makes a thump. I can hit my mothers mazda 6 and it flexes inward and sounds like a tin can when it rains.

Damn! lol, I'm happy I put that closed cell foam in my overhead light or I bet I would be in the same boat lol. If you haven't thought of it already, if you take down the overhead light and stuff it with closed cell foam it will stop it from rattling completely and hopefully prevent further damage.

Glad to see you are happy with the results!

For sure, I've noticed the rear view mirror is pretty stiff and isn't AS affected by the bass as other people. Most of the body panels are pretty stiff like you said, I couldn't believe how much flex (in a bad way) my friend was getting from some pretty crappy subs.

Yep I filled it with ccf, upon finding the screw that fell out and putting that back in :P

Just need to glue the plastic that broke.

On some songs the rearview mirror shakes like crazy but stays in the same position, but other songs... It just flops down in a matter of seconds. The slider for the sunroof also slides back on it's own, and here and there I push all the window buttons up because they slowly go down (just a few mm every 10minutes)

I'm thinking what else can I do to get louder on the tl. I'm sure stiffening the roof would help, but not ready for that yet. Thought about filling quarter panels up with expanding foam but would need to make sure I can still get to the lights and bulbs.

Any other ideas?

Why are you worried about the TL? Have you measured it yet, plan to compete?

Because I want to know the number. Am I stuck in high 40s, approaching 150?

Not competing seriously, but louder is better. Not doing a spl box, just going for a ground pounder.

Loud to the ear and loud to the TL can be two totally different "louds".

Loud to the ear and loud to the TL can be two totally different "louds".

I fully understand that 145db at 30hz is far different to the ear then 150db at 50hz.

The point is, I want to know what numbers I'm doing and at what frequencies. Will knowing these numbers help improve my goal of loudness? No, because I'm not looking for my peak and building a spl box.

I just want to know. It won't be for bragging rights, it won't make me feel like it's any louder, it won't even help, but I'd still like to know.

If I was competing and this wasn't a daily ground pounder, I would find my peak frequency and tune a few hertz below that and start playing with enclosure volumes until I find a sweet spot.

So my options are:

more power (least efficient way and costly)

different drivers (depending on power usage, mounting depth, motor force, sensitivity, and available funds)

different enclosure design (which I have no plans on touching)

vehicle bracing.

At the moment can't afford new drivers, not sure how much power the xcons can really take.

Unless I do some drastic bracing it probably wouldn't be any audible gain.

So I'm going to wait until I have the proper electrical to turn up the saz3000d, see how much louder it gets, if the xcons can handle it, and if I'm satisfied.

I hear ya', i hear ya'. I'm kinda' in the same boat, i dont care how loud i am, i just want to know where i'm at in relation to all those people hitting 150+.

I just feel like my vehicle has the potential to be very loud, it's fairly rigid from the factory, fair amount of cabin volume which could be good or bad depending how you see it, it's a wagon / hatch, all rounded over.

And I honestly don't know how much power I'm getting out of the saz3000d, I can't imagine I'm getting anywhere near it's full power, so who knows there, only time will tell.

But I do know for a fact that there is another volvo v40 with a single 15" firing towards the rear with port up with ~3500watts and it's doing 148s on music at the windshield, not sure if it was sealed up or not. And there switching out the driver and amp soon.

So I kinda have a goal that I should be able to beat that score, considering I have virtually the same power and double the cone area.

have you sat in that one just for a comparison to what you have? Or are they running strictly SPL?

I've been in two vehicles that did 143s on music, my last vehicle and a buddies, my current vehicle is way way louder then both previous.

I've also been in Ds gmc with 2 15" aa smds and 7kw. I believe he was doing low 50s.

I've also been in Marks rocketship build with the zcons.

But both D and Marks vehicles were heard quite a while ago, so I honestly can't say I'm on par, or near par with them. :ughdunno: Can't imagine I would be considering the power and cone area they were using.

But I do have a meter coming soon and hopefully this will help me do some testing and have a better expectation when I'm on the TL for the next show.

Thanks to CrazyKenKid for letting me borrow his meter :drink40:

I'll keep everyone posted on my results and the other v40s results If I can get them :D

I would love to make the volvo loud enough that people have to bail out. Obviously some people will take more then others, but you get the idea :drink40:

Okay I was just informed that one of the shops here in town has a TL. I actually contacted them a while back and they said they didn't have one, so they have gotten one recently.

Contacted them about getting some metering time.

I should be able to do more testing with Ken's meter since I won't be on any time crunch, and I'll compare his meter results to the TL. :)
