system on a $600 to $700 budget

Recommended Posts

looking for suggestions for a sub n amp set up for $500-700. got a '01 expedition.3rd row removed. i've only had a single 15 before so that's what i been considering. listen to rap/hip hop only. going for spl not sq. want the biggest bang on my budget. some have told me to consider a 12 in place of the 15, but i want to make sure i can still get low and loud. thanks for any help.

Welcome .... :drink40:

Sundown SA-15 d2 on a Sundown SAX-1200D would be an excellent choice. I know a guy who can set you up too :peepwall: .

Audio Que 2,200

This will destroy with the right box. :) I could design it as well.

this amp here he's down to $275.00 shipped I believe...

1500 watts @ 2 ohms

this sub here http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/store/products/15%22-SSA-XCON-D1%7B47%7DD2.html for $389.00

1750 watts rms and available in dual 1 ohm coils, wired in series for 2 ohm at amp.

total is $664.00 before shipping on the sub.

This would not be a system to laugh at by any means.

How much space do you want to use? How loud do you want to get? Have you performed any electrical upgrades? If not, would you want/be willing to?

up til now, i had a old school RF punch 15 wit 500 watts goin to it. blew that finally after ten years. now i wanna get a lil more serious n start wit somethin new. dont wanna go more than 5-6 cubes wit the box. only want 1 15 at this time. maybe add another but not anytime soon. wanna see what i can do wit 1. got a stock 130 amp alternator. i dont wanna buy a bigger alternator right now, jus not in the budget. plan on doin the big 3 once i get everything picked out. n wit the choices ive been givin so far, i assume i will need to get another battery to put in the back. ive seen people wit kinetiks n optimas n even regular car batteries. is there a better choice than those i listed, excludin the car battery of course. as far as how loud do i want to get, i jus wanna bang hard n low.

i would say 1 15" mtx 9500 in a good box and either a mtx 1501d amp or something along that and u should be happy. i had 1 12" mtx 9500 in the sledgehammer box in my ranger and it beat. i like the 9500's so much, i now have two of the 9500 12's in custom ported boxes, and on my kicker zx 1500.1. it brings tears to ur eyes and blurs my vision ALOT when driving. i have a total of 800 in subs and amp and its LOUDDDDD. but thats just my 2 cents worth. hope u find something :fing34:

o almost forgot. i have 1 15" RE audio xxx 2005 modle sub for sale. asking 325. look it up if u dont know what it is.... u will be surprised...

I agree with 98GMC, and the enclosure will only need to be about 3 cu ft ported. Good Luck with your choice!

so how much power(watts) do i need to exceed before i need to get an extra battery? i figured since im probably gonna be pushin 1000 watts or more, I AM A need the extra battery.any suggestions for that. what brands would be good? i like the price of the AQ 15 for what i'm tryin to accomplish. would the AQ2200D be too much power for it? but i also like the xcon. jus tryin to make a decision quick so i can get this put together. n the mtx r too much for what im tryin to do right now.

Anything above 1000rms should have a second battery in the rear.

That AQ2200 is a perfect match with either the AQ sub or the SSA sub. I'd go for the Xcon with the AQ 2200. That will get nice a low.

The AQ and SSA are both far superior to the MTX. lol

dead set on 1 15? you could run multiple small, cheap subs on less power (I'm thinking like 4 10" subs on 1500 watts) and get plenty loud (maybe louder) while taking up the same amount of space approximately and saving some cash, less power also means less strain on your electrical system. For your $700 you could get subs/amp/box building supplies/Big 3. Just a thought, not trying to deter you (I would personally get the Xcon and AQ but I have some electrical upgrades)

You should not need a lot of upgrades to run a 1500 watts amp.

I don't even have a secondary battery, my stock one is not an AGM battery, and I did the big 2 ! I still need to add the wire between alt and batt. With absolutely NO problem.

I watch my voltage and I have no drops at all. It's all car dependant.

Get your sub and amp, do the big3, and you will see. If you need more, you will know for sure !

thanks for all the ideas. goin wit the xcon 15. as far as D1 or D2, does it matter. im likin the AQ2200d . so thats the plan. figured since the amp is 1 ohm stable, it wouldn't matter if i went wit D1 or D2 since the D2 can be wired to 1 ohm. now i need to know about a box. wanna go ported/vented, bout 5-6 cubes. nuttin too major. i jus really wanna hit them lows. all feedback is welcome.thanks.

do with d2 for that sub, not d1. dual 2 can be wired down to 1 ohm, a dual 1 cannot

gettin the xcon 15. for the box, it cant be wider than 46". the other dimensions dont matter. im thinkin no bigger than 5-6 cubes, vented/ported. saw a box layout on the website n its 4 cubes tuned to 30 Hz. any thoughts on this? thanks again.

Have you upgraded your stock speakers yet? Are they running off of headunit power? I could be wrong, but in my car 2 JL 12w1v2s on a Kicker KX150.2 was drowning out my vocals. While it was surprisingly loud for what it was, you're going to be in a whole different league with your setup. Even a cheap 4 channel on some cheapo coaxials would be an upgrade....
