Inverted sealed vs regular sealed

I'm trying to figure out the main differences between inverting a sub or flush mounting it like normal. I don't know if there is sonic difference or if the main theory behind it is to just show off the backside of the driver.

I've got two DPL's that I'm going to use sealed. I was thinking around 1.5^3ft each.. but if there is a way to go smaller without sacrificing SQ I could go for that too. They'll each be on a separate channel on my ARC Audio 2500CXL (rated at a conservative 270x2 @ 4ohms).

My max dimensions to work with in my trunk are 16Tx26Dx35W. Of course, going smaller would be a plus.

WOn't be any difference. I believe the moving assembly on the DPLs is rather quiet, which would be the only concern when mounting inverted.

isnt there also a slight loss of cone area due to not having that area on the inside of the coil?

No. The cone area of the driver will not change unless you alter the cone.

even on a driver with no pole vent?

on one with a pole vent, i can see how it would not change

The SD of the driver cannot change unless you change the cone/surround, etc.

I ran my Shiva inverted for a couple days. Only because it sounded like crap with the glue under the dust cap flopping around.

you loose cone surface area on a sealed box when inverting,resulting in a change of frequency,and low end responsewere it is not as noticeable if you were using a ported encloser,the sealed enlosure relys more on the cone area,and the internal volume for tuning

How so? SD is not a variable parameter. It's set and that's it. Displacement is the same on the frontal wave as the rear, with the obvious phase change. Only thing you gain is a limited displacement advantage due to the actual driver no longer being in the enclosure occupying precious space.

That would be sweet, but that's still doing nothing for the parameter. Of course the FR will be different due to a different enclosure volume, and the acoustics from the moving assembly being outside the enclosure, but SD will remain unchanged.

i would say dependant on driver,some displacment is so minamal you real would go much smaller,but on a sub that has a fairly lage displacment,yes
