2 or 4 gauge wire?

Recommended Posts

I just recently purchased a hifonics bxi1608d. It has 4 gauge terminals and is going to be pushing about 1600 watts. I am not sure if 4 gauge is large enough for the 1600 watts but, on the other hand, I am not sure if I would be able to squeeze the 2 gauge into the 4 gauge terminals. Any suggestions?

Go to this site, click on number 16 on the right side of the page, listed as "wire"

You should be able to find your answer there

Is that the only amplifier you're gonna be running? If you're running multiple amplifiers I'd run 1/0 gauge from the battery to a distrobution block (as close to the amp as possible) & then 4g from the distro to the amp.

& if you're just running the one amp you can still do it that way, leaves room for future upgrades & a short 1-2ft run of 4g can handle the 1600w.

Quick note: you can always squeeze any size in a whole, no pun intended, you could simply shave off the outter threading of the copper wire until it fits. But only enough to get the apropiate amount inside.
