Box for a BTL N2 12"

Recommended Posts

FIRST IMPRESSIONS :

When I came to put the box in my car, the builder told me he was amazed by the "résonnance" of the sub / box. He told me that when he pushes the cone the sound is so impressive : he never saw that with any sub he has built box for. He runs 2 SSA Xcons 15" on 4000 w rms ! He was sure that this combo would go doooown !!!

We hook it to my Sundown saz 1500 and WOW !!!

This thing is sooo loud, and goes soooo low. Incredible !!! I need to listen to it a little more to really give you my opinion.

My car is shaking like crazy; and I found new rattles.

I never felt my doors moving like that. On heavy bass notes, a lot of air is coming from the inside doors and escape through the window opening ! amazing !!!

Now I have 2 xcons to sell because my box builder wants 2 BTL's 15" now !!!

5 minutes before he told me that; someone called me to buy 2 SSA subs !!!:dancing: We will talk about it tonight on "our" friday night parking lot meeting if the rain don't bother us too much.

You like this 12" BTL more than the 15" XCON?

Nice job on that bracing...dowels make it really easy because they don't take up hardly any space and don't restrict air flow very much at all.

I think I like it more than the Xcon ! But I still need to play with it more !!!

Here are some more pictures :

Now, I might have some room , in case I want to add a battery. Who knows ?!!!

Not the same goal.

I loved my Xcon for sure. I need to play some more to really know this btl. I can't compare so easily. I feel the btl is louder, but for the accuracy, I can't say by now.

I did not want the old btl, too heavy ! And I needed to downsize the sub.

If I had a 12" xcon from the beginning, I don't know if I would have change my plans !!!

both subs are great.

SSA subs can be loud too !

Sunday, at a local comp, a friend of mine went to the spl comp just to get metered with his SSA Icon 15" (I sold it to him with the box).

He wanted to be the last competitor because he was afraid. He did 139.7 db sealed on the dash with a 32 Hz tuning box and all his rear speakers on the hatch cover. He did not took off the fuse on his mids amplifier. He was so happy. A few cars were way behind him with "wall" and spl subs !!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was making fun of them all day, with a huge smile !!!

Maybe I'll try to get metered one day with the btl.

Thanks Bromo !He knows that better than me, for sure. He's the designer !

I would have never imagine a btl could play so low and be so powerful at the same time !

BTW Bromo, we feel we had to add some more braicing. So we added some where needed, and now the box is harder, stronger.

My builder is adding the same kind of bracing to all his speakerboxes of his pro audio system, and he loves the change !!! Thanks for him !

How is the BTL now that you had it for a while?

I love it.

First, I thought it was too powerful on the lowest notes and was missing in the "upper" range (still under 80 hz !!). It was surprising, very surprising because I was expecting the opposite!

Now it plays much more flat.

I never thought a BTL was able to play music so well ! For my musical taste the BTL is perfect. From a 15" xcon to a 12" btl, I lost nothing in output, maybe I have more !

I feel that this sub needs :morepower1: to shine even more. I'm trying to save to get a Sundown 2500 or something else cheaper.

I added a Kinetic HC 1200 in the back for the bass amp. My voltage is much higher with engine off but it's not really higher with the car ON, just stronger. The voltage drops when I start the AC only !

And the sub never has excursion like I can see in some u tub videos ! It's not a goal for me, but it shows what it can do, and mine is far from that.

Nice

Sounds like your alternators bust.

What do you mean by "your alternators bust" ?

It seems fine for me. But I'm not a mechanist !

With the engine on, the improvments are visible on the voltmeter. Like when I upgraded each ground ! I could see each voltage increase !

I ONLY have the same voltage drop with the AC on, like when the car was new with no sound system in it.

The way you typed it earlier made it seem like your car's voltage while off was higher then the voltage while on. For example, your voltage while car off is 12.8volts and while on 12.3volts (just an example).

I read it the same way when I was reading the post.

Speaking French and Créole everyday, all day long, it's not so easy to write in English on the forum ! sorry !

But yes, you got it jay-cee, the voltage stays at 12.5 v with engine off, and at 13.8 v with engine on.
