I received my BTTL

Recommended Posts

Hi !

Yesterday I received my 12" FI BTL N2.:dancing:

First thing first : the box was really heavy. They saiys Neodym would make the sub lighter, but I think it's heavier than a 15" Xcon !!! (I may be wrong, but it's 20 Kg).

This sub seems small to me. I've been running only 15" subs for years now : S15 L7 kicker (in my car for now), Impact car audio 67 series, SSA Icon, SSA, Xcon. Maybe that's why I found this 12" so small !!!!

Small and heavy !

I could not take pics because my new phone (BB curve 9300) doesn't have any light/flash for night pics.

I was surprised to see how this thing looks like it was made by ...hands and not by machines on an automatic assembly line! You can see that some parts are not perfectly cut, they look corrected . I don't have all the words I need to explain, sorry !!!

I remember that they say they had to re work on some parts because they were not like they want , at FI. So,...

My box builder and installer, who runs 2 Xcons 15" on 4 saz 1000, was amazed by the stifness of ...don't know how to say it ! It looks like a small beast for him.

The box is quite finished. I need to buy some carpet on lunch time, and to take off my current box the bolts terminals.

Box design is coming from Bromo : 2.1 ft3 at 32 Hz with the slot port firing to the driver's side.

I'll post pics tomorrow.

Big big thanks to Bromo and Eclectic Designs on car Audio Forum, to Fi for an awesome driver, and Ras Marcus for the box building !!!

All this drama to get your sub and no pics. Fail. j/k. Congrats on your new sub. Forget the pics and go straight to video. :P

Let us know how it sounds compared to your 15's.

What's your favorite 15 so far and why?

All this drama !!! You're right !But I'm not really good on vids ! Don't even know how to post a vid in the forum, but I'll try to do it.

So far, my favorite sub is the SSA Xcon : I love how accurate it is, with so much output.

Second favorite, I would say the Impact 67. It's an Italian brand, and they make great products, amps, subs, speakers...

The L7 is powerful, strong, but in all the enclosures I had it in I was never totally satisfied (sealed box of 2ft3,3ft3 and 5ft3, ported 3.2ft3 at 32 hz).

I have to say I wanted more from my SSA Icon, but when I sold it to a friend I was amazed with how it sounded in his VW Golf tdi : fantastic !!! Same box (3.5ft3 @ 32hz, with a slot port and sub firing up). In my Toyota hatchback it sounded ok.

I don't think I've ever heared a bad sounding sub in a VW Golf or Polo. the new owner of the Icon is happy like a little boy with his sub!

I did not want to have a woofer in the smallest box it can accept.

My trunk is small : the biggest ported box I can fit in in 3.5 ft3 and it takes ALL my cargo space !

With this 12" I can put the hatch cover back in its place, have a little room in the trunk.

And it will be easier to re sell or to add a second for any buyer. I don't know yet if I will keep this sub for long. I never did that, as I always find someone who want to buy my equipment for good cash money (more than I pay for it, but don't tell anybody !!!).

this 12" BTL will go in a slot ported box : 2.1 ft3 at 32hz. but only on a Sundown saz 1500.

good point. When you get everything setup let us know how the Btl compares to the Xcon in your own opinion.

I would like to know as well. Probably a better match up would be a ZCON and BTL.

I have all the pics in the build log section, I made a topic there !

first listening session :wow !!! This sub gets loud and plays soooo low ! I was impressed, amazed. And so was my installer : he wants to sell his 2 xcons 15" to get 2 btls 15" instead!!!

Second listening session : still very loud, but it seems that the gain was too high, and so, I had some weird noise coming from the speaker at high volume. But on the low notes eveything was good, only the "highest" ones were making noise when hitting hard.

I turned down the gain and...no noise at all, only good good bass !

I did not think a btl could sound like that : it's smooth and heavy ! I still need to play with it for some times !!!

A bit late..but if you think the N2 is heavy, the older style gives you a hernia every time you move it around

Maybe I wrote it bad !!!

The bass is heavy, the output of the sub is heavy, loud, ...

The sub is lighter than the older style one. About 20kg "only", that's not so heavy for such a beast !!!
