Noobish question about the right amp for 12" Fi Q

Recommended Posts

I'm planning on getting a 12" Fi Q (dual 1 ohm with cooling, spider and heat ring) and putting it in a ported box and I am on the hunt for an amp to boot. I think I found what i want and its a Hifonics HFi1000D but i also saw a Hifonics HFi1200D for $50 more so i was wondering if its a good idea to go with the extra 200 watts and if i should just stay around 1000 watts since thats what the sub is rated at.

There will be no audible difference btween 200 watts.

Also... if your running just one Q, get dual 2ohm and wire it down To 1ohm.

All right I'm gonna see how much cash I have free after this next paycheck to get the Sundown and just wondering whats the benefit of wiring it down to 1 ohm? And How would this be done? I'm semi-Clueless

well TBH, you picked the wrong subwoofer for reaching 1ohm load... You can only go down to 2ohm or .5ohm ....

You need to go with D2 subwoofers to reach a 1ohm load.. basically less resistance for the amplifier which unleashing more power... not all amps are 1 ohm stable but the ones you picked were..

Not yet. Waiting on my box design. The guy who I ordered the design from has had the flu. So I should get it soon. I also need some 1/0ga.

And I also mentioned about getting a d2 sub.

x2 to what shogen said. If you haven't ordered the sub I'd get the dual 2 ohm to wire to 1 ohm. As far as the "benefit" of wiring to 1 ohm, there is no benefit other than you can find more amps that do your power at 1 ohm. You don't want to pay for a 2000 watt amp when you are only using 2 ohm at 1000 watts, unless you plan on maybe adding another Q later down the road. Different "ohm" options just give you more wiring versatility. There are no different effects in sound or anything between the 2.
