Stock Alternato or HO Alternator

Recommended Posts

I currently have a 90 amp alternator, im not sure if i should purchase a HO alternator (150 amps).

During the week i will be doing the big 3 upgrade along with purchasing a new baterry.

The battery im getting is a Deka Intimidator AGM battery:

Group Size 78

Warranty 72 Month

Chemistry AGM

Cold Cranking Amps 740

Cranking Amps 850

Reserve Capacity 120

Amp Hour Rate 55

The sound system im going to be adding is 2 12 Fi BLs and a hifonoics Brutus BRZ2100.1D.

So, do i stay stock or go to HO alt, moneys tight so id only get the new alt if its absolutely necessary.

wait on the h/o!

just install it and keep an eye on your voltage and be conservative! also get a voltmeter!

You'd have to keep gains down in order to keep alternator from overworking itself... With 2 BLs I think you'll be fine pinching your gain to almost nil... Right???

With the voltmeter, what should i be looking for to tell if its doing good or bad

well if your battery voltage falls below 12volts turn the volume down but shogen does bring up a good point your amp will be pulling a lot so to prolong the life on the alt dail the gain down some! like if your amp is rated for 1krms run it at 800~

1000rms at 12volts = what 85amps?

and your alt makes 90amps at what idle or 3k rpm?

well you have your answer! get a h/o if you want to run more power but until you get one keep the gain down a bit and watch your voltage!

to watch my voltage i use a stinger meter!

Your stock alt does not make enough power. Put a dmm on your battery terminals with the car running, what's the voltage at idle with your lights and ac on?

Your saying 90max and 75idle, after your cars electrical stuff pulls it's amps (lights, ac, ecu, etc) your alt is barely gonna have enough for anything, much less a 2kw amp

Adding a Battery is going to help but the battery is constantly going to be discharging and your alts gonna be working 24/7 trying to keep it charged. Notice I said trying...

Not sure if deco or anyone else makes some cheap decent alts that a little upgrade from stock, but DC Power has a lower line, I think sp series? I'd defientely look into that.

Sorry if my text is misspelled, iPad... :P
